The warm weather has arrived and school's out for summer, which means let the Summer Vacations begin! We'd like to remind you to call and schedule your pet's vaccine updates for summer travel and boarding. Don't let expired vaccines ruin your fun! 🐾☀️
We will be closed today from 12pm - 2pm for a staff meeting. Phone calls will not be answered and medication pick up will not be available during this time. We thank you for understanding.

Tallac, the border collie, had to have his fractured canine tooth extracted last week. His little boy at home did a kind thing, by writing the Tooth Fairy🦷 a letter so Tallac could get something in exchange for the tooth he lost. Tallac’s owners report that the dog tooth fairy did indeed pull through and left him a treat under his dog bed 🥰
The letter reads “To the tooth fery, pleez look under the dog bed. Tallac lost his tooth. Thanc you, love Zander” 📝

We are excited to announce that we are now offering Librela as a pain management option for arthritis in dogs. Librela is injected under the skin once monthly to provide long-term pain control. This medication is a monoclonal antibody that works to reduce pain signals, making it easier for your dog to move and play.

Recently, there has been an outbreak of respiratory disease in dogs across the country. Currently, it is unknown what the cause of this disease is. There are different levels of severity seen. It seems to cause similar symptoms as canine infectious respiratory disease complex, commonly known as Kennel Cough. However, it either seems to linger for many weeks or it can lead into pneumonia. There are a few cases that have progressed very quickly into pneumonia and have become fatal. At this time, it is believed that the cause is either a new strain of one of the different viral or bacterial causes of Kennel Cough.
Because we do not fully understand what is causing this disease process, we wanted to give you our best recommendations at this time. As with other respiratory diseases, it is best to avoid unnecessary contact with other dogs that are unfamiliar to you. This would be reminiscent of the isolation precautions we all went through with Covid-19. If it can be postponed, boarding and grooming should be avoided at this time.
If boarding or grooming cannot be avoided, we would suggest being vaccinated with Canine Influenza (injectable), Bordetella & Parainfluenza (oral spray). We currently have a new vaccine in stock for Bordetella/Parainfluenza. Even though your dog may have received vaccines for Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza previously, we would suggest calling to see if your dog is fully up to date with the new vaccines prior to boarding or grooming.
If your dog does start to cough, please contact us so we can get an appointment set up. If you do bring your dog in for an appointment for coughing, we do ask that you leave your dog in the car until your exam room is ready.

We are a pet food donation site for the Feeding Pets of the Homeless organization. They are constantly in desperate need of food for cats and dogs and appreciate any donations.

Meet Kelli.
Kelli started with us as an assistant in August of 2018 and was an integral part of our team. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree from UNR last May and started vet school at St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies in January.
She came back and shadowed for a few days with us over her Summer break and we were so happy to have her back in the hospital for a few days.
We are so proud of you Kelli and so excited to watch you on this journey as well as see where life takes you! Have a great Fall semester.

4th of July is coming up! Fireworks and other loud noises can cause pets to become frightened or disoriented. Call us today if you think your pet may need medication to help decrease their anxiety for the upcoming holiday.
Just a friendly, but very important, reminder for this summer! We don't want to see your dogs for heat stroke so please do not leave them in the car! ☀
