They’re heeeere 😑

Japanese Beetle time. I’ve been waiting for them. Sprayed them With Captain Jack’s Dead Bug and BAM 💥 POW 💥 done! Took about 15 minutes to see end of life. I sprayed early morning as to not disturb the pollinators.

Will probably have to continue to spray once or twice a week to keep them away, totally worth the extra effort.

*Note, they seem to be loving the aramotto basil, and marigolds. Can’t ever remember having them on marigolds. Anyone else seeing this?

So it begins! First Ranunculus bloom of 2024. Mr. Wisewood always says he wishes they were scented. I know they don’t have a scent, but I put my nose to it and inhaled anyway. WHAT!?!? It has the softest, most delicate scent. The fragrance is a lighter version of old rose. Oh my!

Butterfly Ariadne Ranunculus. First time growing Butterfly Ranunculus. The corms were started over Martin Luther King holiday weekend, and planted out March 3rd.

A bit nervous about the weather. Up to baseball size hail is likely in our area through 9pm tonight. Small hail I think we could recover from, but baseball size may be a different story. Just received the first weather alert. Softball size hail is moving in to the area. 🫣

So I figured I would post to document the progress of the plants just in case the worst happens. Send us some good vibes, good Ju Ju, and /or a prayer that these beauties make it through the storm.

Sunday afternoon I started lettuce, statice, chamomile, winter savory, St John’s Wort, and stock. What is it with seeds this year! Are they on steroids? The statice, and lettuce germinated in 24 hours. The stock, and chamomile germiated in about 36 hours. That’s just crazy 🤯

Farm update: Heat, storms, and health have challenged us this year. We had 3 back to back severe storms that took out or severely damaged our crops. And, Mr. Wisewood has not been well.

What to do. Instead of stressing over what we couldn’t change or control - we simply let it go. We have sat quietly and enjoyed the blooms that made it through despite the chaos. We took a vacation. A real one. So I am not sharing flower pictures. I am instead sharing pictures of our vacation.

We are preparing to do Fall clean up, and get ready for Spring. We are still here, and counting the days until time to start Ranunculus. We hope you have all had a wonderful summer, and made some great memories.

There are just not enough words to describe how much we love this rose. Fertilizer, cooler weather, and loads of rain over the last few weeks have made it very happy. The blooms are ever changing depending on weather, soil, and climate. This rose puts on a show no matter what. To make it even better - it’s continual bloomer.
