Farewell to the amazing Bruce!

I first saw Bruce’s story when I was working with a different rescue. (And him and his adoptive sister have been my favorite saves to date.) He was surrendered to an overcrowded shelter in Indiana as a result of an altercation between him and the owner’s new puppy. Of course, the owner decided to keep the puppy vs Bruce.
As a result of the altercation, Bruce was left with a lot of physical and mental trauma. He suffered many wounds and fell into a depression which made his recovery even more difficult.
I went to scoop him out of the shelter there and he started his new life in WI. Our veterinarians examined him and determined that, due to his injuries, he would likely not make it more than 3-4 months.
Bruce and his new family proved to them that, with a lot of love, you can hang in there.
Nine months later, Bruce’s loving family has decided it’s time to cross that rainbow bridge! He got an amazing second chance with his new family; he was loved, and spoiled rotten. Farewell Bruce. You have been an amazing dog and I’m so happy to have met you!

A big thank you to his family for loving him and giving him the most amazing 9months. As well as still being apart of the JJ’s family with fostering dogs.

Who remembers the little puppy that one of our volunteers found in the woods a few months ago?

Nobody ever did claim her but that doesn’t mean that she didn’t have a happy ending. She was adopted through our rescue and has blossomed into a beautiful, well adapted young lady. She even completed an obedience course lately!

🔥🔥 HEAT WAVE🔥🔥

Please, monitor your pets as the next few days leaves for a nasty heat wave.

Short nose breeds like Boxers, bulldogs, and others are at higher risk for heat stroke so monitor them closely.
Sidewalk surface temps will burn their paw pads quickly. PLEASE DONT EVER LEAVE YOUR DOG LOCKED IN A HOT CAR, temps can rise very quickly!

You can cool them with room temp water. Do not use ice or cold water if they are having these symptoms of heat stroke it can cause the body more damage. Most importantly make sure your dog has access to water and shade. If you feel they have symptoms of heat stroke please call your vet!

Hi! I’m Bindi and, right now, I am the baby of JJ’s! One of JJ’s volunteers was driving through the woods and found me all alone and covered in rain. She scooped me up and brought me to this rescue. I saw the vet and I’m almost ready for adoption!

The doctor thinks I am lab and husky but we can’t be totally sure unless someone donates a DNA kit. Still, it’s very likely that I have husky so my ideal parent/s would have experience with my breed as we can have pretty spicy personalities and require a lot of physical and mental stimulation.

My foster mom hears me howl a lot. I definitely like to be the center of attention. I’m a baby, after all! I love to eat, play, snuggle, and smooch!

We are now taking applications for Bindi in anticipation of her being ready for adoption. You will hear back from us next week on the status of your application with meet and greets to be scheduled the weekend of the 17th-19th. Thank you for your continued support!

In honor of Memorial Day we'd like to take a moment today, and remember and thank the many lives lost through history who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our constitution and country. We could never be able to thank you or your loved ones in person, but know that we will NEVER forget.

A few things to keep in mind if you're spending the holiday outside with your pets.

Fireworks can be scary. Be sure they wear their collar with identifiable information or are microchipped. This helps get them back to you quickly if they run off.

Keep them hydrated. It's going to be a warm day!

One of the most important assets to a rescue are good fosters. Because we are so new, this is an area in which we desperately need to expand. We have been approached many times in the recent past with animals who really need placement and we always have to reject them because we do not have anywhere for them to go.

Now more than ever, JJ’s Tails Animal Rescue could really use a few solid fosters. We need people who understand what they are getting into. If we accept an animal, we need foster to follow through. So please only apply if you can commit to opening your home to these animals who need consistency. Animals who are constantly moved around never get to experience stability and that is a key factor to the healing process. This, above all else, must be thoroughly agreed upon and understood.

In addition, we are looking for people who are familiar with animal behavior and “cues.” Our ideal foster home will not discriminate against breed or age and would be understanding that most animals do not come potty trained or know basic commands. Our fosters are expected to provide consistency to the animals. Other expectations include consistent meals, play time, and showing them lots of love and patience.

For those wondering about little miss Emmy, she’s doing really well. We had a Pre-Surgery talk with the vet today and she will need 6-8 weeks of recovery time after her surgery. Even with her injury she’s still a very happy affectionate girl. Does so well with car rides. She’s still very puppy and does get into her share of mischief. We can’t wait to find miss Emmy her forever family.

Over the last couple of days we’ve gotten some packages, I can’t express how much this is appreciated! The pate kitten food and the litter has been so helpful as 20 kittens plus 3 mommas do eat quite a bit, but also just the support you all have shown us in the last few weeks has literally be so amazing.

The kittens appreciate all the toys and food to keep their growing belly’s happy!

For all kitten applications:

We are sending out emails this weekend for approved adopters as some of the kittens won’t be ready for a few weeks. So keep your eyes peeled for that email no later than Sunday afternoon.

Hey guys meet Zeus!
He’s a 6month old Pit mix up to date on all shots, neutered, loves kid, and good with other animals. It does take Zeus a little bit to warm up to you but he’s SUPER treat motivated. He even knows some basic commands. Zeus has been around kids, small animals, cats, and dogs. He seems to do well around all of them.

This is what his foster momma has to say about him.
“He's a little wild boy, loves his bones and toys and just wants to play with my one dog. He's being good boy, very smart and knows some basic commands. Feeding my rabbits and guinea pigs tonight found out he likes carrots.”
