Little Red Barn Dog Rescue

Little Red Barn Dog Rescue We are a small rescue located in the heart of the Northwoods of Wisconsin! We are a federally recognized 501c3 EIN 84-4695525.

We strive to improve the lives of dogs in need until we locate their forever families. We assist with local surrenders, unclaimed strays, as well as transfer dogs out of shelters. We are county and state inspected through Barron County and the WDATCP; Dog Facility Operator Licsense #490092. As a nonprofit we operate primarily off of donations collected from supporters to provide our residents with

the very best in medical, enrichment, and care. Donations are used towards transportation fees, medical fees, and daily care needs. We serve our community by caring for local surrender dogs, as well as unclaimed stray dogs in need of a place to lay their head until their furever families comes! We assist many Southern rescues, shelters and animal controls by transferring their over-crowed dogs to our care. We began operations late January of 2020, and we are hoping to build our rescue to last! We are constantly evolving to provide our residents with every thing they may need to strive, learn, be happy and healthy.

Have you ever thought of Fostering? We are drowning in surrender requests.

Being a foster home to a dog in need allows you to be part of their story, and make a lasting difference in their lives!

Fostering is one of the hardest, and most rewarding volunteer opportunities we have. Your heart will melt, you will love them like your very own, and then your heart will break when they find their furever family... but this heartache is eased knowing they are loved, and another good boy or girl needs you.

We provide all medical, food and care items- you provide the love! Because we pick up and drop off for medical appointments, we would love for fosters to be located in Barron County, or within 1 hour of Rice Lake.

We will help pair you with the best foster match; IE large adult, small adult, senior, puppies, medical needs/recovery.

Foster Applications can be filled out at:

**ADOPTION PENDING**
ADOPTABLE!!

This 4.5 month old Boston Terrier answers to “Bucket” on his mischievous days and “Boo-kay” on his fancy, well-behaved days. Truth is… he’s mostly just a happy, wiggly, ridiculously lovable boy.

Loves people, other dogs, being the center of attention and is always ready for playtime, snuggles, and anything fun.

Bucket is everything you expect from a Boston Terrier — silly, social, affectionate, and full of personality packed into a compact body.

If you’re looking for a playful, loyal, goofy sidekick who will brighten your days (and maybe steal your snacks), Bucket might just be your perfect match.

Adoption fee is $500 and includes up to date vaccinations for distemper/parvo, rabies, bordatella, microchip, and certified vet inspection!

Sweet Poe, our 11-month-old poodle/chihuahua mix, had the ultimate spa day thanks to Beth at Pet Supplies Plus - Rice Lake, WI Grooming! Beth made sure Poe felt pampered and loved before her spay, and just look at that adorable face and fresh haircut!

Poe came to us pregnant — still just a baby herself.

At only 11 months old, her body isn’t ready to safely carry or raise puppies. The risks to her health would be far too high. That’s why spay abortion can be such an important and compassionate choice in rescue work. It allows young, at-risk dogs like Poe to live healthy, happy lives without facing the dangers of early pregnancy or contributing to the heartbreaking cycle of overpopulation.

Today, Poe gets to just be a puppy again — no worries, no stress, just tail wags, treats, and belly rubs.

Thank you again to Beth and the amazing team at Pet Supplies Plus Rice Lake for showing Poe so much love! 🥰🐾❤️

This isn’t an easy post to make — but it’s the truth.

In the last 30 days alone, Little Red Barn Dog Rescue has paid out just shy of $25,000 in medical bills — and that’s just vet costs. (Our current vetting accounts are now at $0, but we know that wont last beyond today.)

That doesn’t include food, cleaning supplies, flea and tick prevention, microchips, in house vaccinations, food deliveries to keep pets with their families, or the countless other things it takes to care for the dogs who come through our doors.

Behind every one of those bills is a story — a broken body, a terrified face, a dog who didn’t ask for any of this.

We’ve seen everything lately… PARVO, gunshot wounds, starvation, neglect, hoarding situations, police confiscations, cries for help from every kind of heartbreak you can imagine.

While we fight for them, our volunteers and caregivers are breaking too.

We are exhausted — emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially.

We’ve cried in our cars, sat awake at night worrying about vet bills, wondering if we can keep saying yes the next time a plea comes in.

We carry the weight of every single one we couldn’t save — and it never gets lighter.

We are doing everything we can to keep the doors open, the lights on, and the dogs happy and healthy.

But the truth is… rescues like ours are hanging on by a thread.

We don’t get government funding.

We don’t have corporate sponsors or endless resources.

We have you — our community, our village, our lifeline.

If you’ve ever donated, volunteered, shared a post, or said a prayer for one of our dogs — you are part of every life we’ve saved.

But right now, we can’t do it alone.

Please, if you can — donate, share, volunteer, or simply remind others that we’re still here fighting.
Because without you, we can’t keep doing this. ❤️🐾

Sweet little TAQUITO (7 year old male chihuahua) received his neuter and dental surgery today... a whopping 21 teeth had to be removed, and his adoption fee is only $375- half of the actual cost we have invested into his health so far. This happens over and over again, with so many adult dogs entering rescue needing extensive dental work. Taquito will be going through recovery, and then will be looking for his furever home! 🥰❤️🐾

💔 A Hard Truth, Wrapped in Love ❤️

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do… is stop the cycle before it starts.

In rescue, we face heartbreaking choices every day — dogs surrendered, litters left behind, mamas worn out from breeding, and tiny lives born into a world already overflowing with homeless animals.

When a pregnant dog comes to us, we love her fiercely. We see her exhaustion, her fear, her confusion. And sometimes, the most merciful, loving choice is to let her rest — to give her back her health, her peace, her future. That may mean ending a pregnancy so she doesn’t have to keep suffering for a system that fails her.

Spay abortion isn’t about taking life. It’s about giving life back — to the dog who’s already here and deserves to live it fully.

Because every kennel is full. Every foster home is stretched thin. Every unwanted litter means fewer chances for the ones already waiting.

It’s not an easy decision — it’s an act of compassion, of responsibility, and of love.

To the rescuers who carry that burden, and to the mamas who finally get to rest — we see you, we honor you, and we promise to keep fighting for a world where mercy doesn’t have to look like this anymore. 💔🐾❤️
