I have a fondness for this dog that goes deeper than any I've had with an RHS dog - even my own (don't tell them!).

I've known him since he was 6 months old when we pulled him from the shelter. His first foster had him for a couple of months, then a second foster home for a year, an adoptive home for a year, and then returned with his housemate, Billy (through no fault of their own, I might add), and into another foster home. He's been through a lot.

But my fondness isn't because I feel sorry for him, nope, my fondness for him comes from knowing what a lovely dog he is. He is so gentle and kind, smart as hell, if you can describe a dog as "deep", he's that. He is deep. To the bone, deep.

Hank is a little like a Tootsie Roll Pop. He’s got a bit of a crunchy outside, but if you take your time, you’ll get to that soft, delicious inside bit. It’s worth the wait.

Anna has a lot to say! She is now 9mo old and STILL wait for her forever family to come and get her.
She is 100% potty trained and crate trained.
She will patiently sit and wait for her dinner (but she will let you know when it is late)
She know sit, stay, leave it, and down.
She LOVES her walks, and she loves to play ball!!!
She is in a foster with other dogs, and young kids.

We had a very special adoption this past week. Lina, our 2.5-year-old German Shepherd went to her forever home.

When we pulled Lina from Collin County Animal Shelter last September, she was on the euthanasia list. She had been there for some time and was deteriorating fast. When Cindy Chadwick, our intake coordinator, put out an emergency plea for a foster, Amy Hall and her husband Punit stepped up.

They had her for almost a full year before we found her forever home, but their patience paid off: this week Lina went to an experienced German Shepherd family with a 3-acre homestead adjacent to farmland with goats, cows, and other farm-y critters.

Lina gets long walks every day, two days a week she gets to play for a full hour in the sprinklers (her great joy), and the rest of the time she cuddles with one of the four family members: mom, dad, and two adult daughters who all dote on her.

A year is a long time for a dog to be in foster care, but some dogs need special accommodations, and we never place our dogs in homes we don’t feel 100% comfortable with – it’s one of the many things that set us apart. That and our devoted foster base - thanks to Amy and Punit for never giving up.

OK, this one slid under the radar but our sweet little beagle girl, Sophie, was also adopted this week! She convinced her foster family that she is the perfect fit and she became a permanent family member on Sunday. She now has two human parents, a teenaged human brother and a canine brother named Ollie.

If I emphasized that she is a BEAGLE and her canine sibling is OLLIE, would that give anyone a clue as to who might have adopted her??!! Yep, RHS's own President, Karen, and her family have added Sophie to their long history of foster failures. :)

Sophie was rescued from the Greenville Shelter and will be keeping her name.

Thank you to the Bearmans and everyone else who made Sophie's happy tale come true!

Let's end the week with some good news - Bluey and Mary Ann have both been adopted!

Benjamin Buford Blue (aka Bluey) was adopted on Tuesday by his foster dad, Britt. Now known as Blue, he is the only pet in his Dad's life so he'll get all the pets and attention.

Blue was abandoned, tied to a rock and entangled in an old tent but fortunately an independent rescuer found him and reached out on social media for help. Britt saw a video about a puppy in need and spoke to his friend, RHS Volunteer/Foster Kris, about fostering the puppy for RHS. After fostering for a while, Britt said he just couldn't see letting Blue be adopted by anyone except himself and the rest is, as they say, history.

And another of the Gilligan's Island litter has been adopted! Pretty, fluffy-eared Mary Ann has decided that her foster family is the right one for her and they made it official on Thursday. She joins a small family with a work-from-home Dad (who's always around for cuddles!), a mom and a small human brother to grow up with. They're keeping her name; mom, Stacey, said it suits her spunky personality. :)
Mary Ann was fostered first by Linda B and family, and then she and her brother, Professor, were fostered by Stacey and her family. They decided Mary Ann was the perfect fit for them, and, as we know, Professor (now Branch) moved to a new foster family who adopted him several weeks ago. But the two siblings will be seeing more of each other; their humans recently discovered, quite by accident, that they live near each other and their human kiddos are very close in age, so they will be arranging family playdates soon!

Thanks to everyone who helped these lucky pups find their happily-ever-afters!

This is Hank, he's a lovely 3-year-old, handsome, black, dog who continues to get overlooked. He's sweet, kind, cuddly, and oh-so-smart.

Hank can be a bit over the top (and by over the top we mean OVER THE TOP) when meeting new people but clearly offsets that with some mad relaxation techniques.

If you also like to relax, Hank might be your kind of dog. Oh - and he absolutely adores other dogs.

Another of the Gilligan's Island litter has found his fur-ever home! Lagoon, now known as Charlie (or Mr. Charles when he's feeling fancy) now has a mom with no other pets so all the love and attention belongs solely to him. :) His new mom, Allie, met him at his foster, Patty's, house and could not stop thinking about him; his resemblance in features and temperament to a family dog from her childhood made him the perfect furry companion to bring into her life.

His human grandparents are already spoiling him silly; he's got a stuffed bone with his name embroidered on it, a stuffed Loch Ness monster toy from their recent trip to Scotland, and Grandpa even bought him a set of boots because he was worried about small paws on the hot Texas pavement!

Lagoon/Charlie already has a girlfriend in his new neighborhood - a lovely husky puppy named Iris. He can't wait to see her and they play together as often as possible!

Lorelei is a gorgeous mama cat who has been looking for her forever home for over a year now.

Quick facts

She is SOOO soft an absolutely loves attention. Shes very smart and engaged when people are nearby and loves showing off her modeling skills.

We took her in from a local shelter when she was very pregnant. All of her kittens have found homes, but she is still looking for her forever family.

Lorelei is an extremely sweet cat, but can be a little grabby so we think she'd do best in a home without children.
