🦃(Thanksgiving) Farm Fact: Those "Candied Yams" you look forward to every Thanksgiving? They're almost certainly NOT yams!
In the US, the orange-fleshed vegetable you use for your sweet casserole is a Sweet Potato. True yams are a completely different, starchy tuber imported from Africa and Asia—they've got rough, bark-like skin and are much drier and less sweet than your holiday favorite. The name "yam" just stuck thanks to old-time marketing! 🍠
