Update on the EHV-1 outbreak - RRC to reopen the facility

Based on information available on the EDCC website, and recent conversations with several equine vets:

**RRC is putting out this post to all members that we will be reopening the club to horse haul-ins and walk-ins starting Saturday, December 6, at 12:00 PM..**

It is asked that members using the facility continue to comply with the following:

-Avoid walking and working your horse near the trailers and barns.
-Please do not visit the horses living on-site.
-No tying your horse to any parts of the facility.
-Please tie only to your own trailer if already parked on-site, or keep your horse in-hand.
**Until further notice**
-Do not allow your horse to make nose-to-nose contact with other horses, even in passing.
-Do not share buckets, tack, or equipment with other members.

These extra precautions are intended to not only prevent potential facility contamination, but also to ensure horses that live on-site are protected from potential exposure to the virus as well.

If you have further questions or concerns please email the board at http://www.richlandriders.org/contactus.htm.

The Richland Riders Club has been providing the Tri-Cities area of Washington State with a positive equestrian riding experience since 1949.

As of November 22nd, 2025, two cases of the Equine Herpesvirus - Respiratory (EHV-1) were reported and properly quarantined in Spokane County.

While there are currently no known cases in the surrounding area, we would like to do our part to keep it that way.

**RRC is putting out this post to all members that we will be closing the club to all haul ins and walk-ins starting Tuesday, November 25 at 12:00 PM. This means no bringing trailers in or out of the club and no walking through the gates with other horses to come visit the club or leave the club.**

It is asked that members using the facility outside this temporary restriction also comply with the following:

-Avoid walking and working your horse near the trailers and barns.
-Please do not visit the horses living on-site.
-No tying your horse to any parts of the facility.
-Please tie only to your own trailer if already parked on-site, or keep your horse in-hand.

It is encouraged for owners, especially for those whose horses live on-site, to talk to their vet about concerns or consider EHV-1 boosters as the first line of defense for themselves and the club community.

A basic informational post about the EHV-1 virus and how to prevent spreading through cross contamination can be found:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this temporary restriction to the club, and appreciate the understanding and support of all our RRC members. If you have further questions or concerns please email the board at http://www.richlandriders.org/contactus.htm.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone exposed and affected by this horrible virus!
