We have great guest trainers who come to 4 Paws! For sniffy peeps, Judith Guthrie is coming the first weekend in August. Judith specializes in professional detection dogs and sport scent work. She is a Judge for NACSW, AKC, and USCSS. She enjoys all aspects of training and behavior across multiple species and disciplines. Figuring out how to break down any behavior to its base components and molding those components into the behavioral goal she is working for is one of things she enjoys most.

JANUARY 13, 2024

NASDA (North American Sport Dog Association – NASDA.dog) offers a rat-finding event in urban locations. Competitions are held in and around buildings and dogs search for rats contained within a quarry box.

Dogs will be introduced to the rat in box and value built for finding the rat. Search scenarios similar to those found in a competition environment will be set up for practice. As teams advance in skills, the rat hides become more challenging and may involve height and inaccessibility (as in the trunk of a car). Teams will be appropriately challenged for their level throughout the workshop with the goal of building drive and enthusiasm for the find!

Three days of buried! Dogs on odor at any level are welcome! AKC has an element called buried! It is the identifying of odor buried in either sand or water in specific sized bins. The challenge is that the odor moves differently in water and in sand and dogs need to have the opportunity to practice....

NASDA Lost Item Online titling or practice!

You can title in Lost Item through Master Champion Levels in a titling program specifically for online submission and separate from NASDA trials!

We can also include practice for AKC Handler Discrimination for Advanced through Master!

Each NASDA level requires 4 qualifying searches and you can try for more than one level in a day. Each sign up slot will allow you 4 searches so if you want to try for a second level, you will need to sign up for an additional search slot in a different "hour." There will be enough unique areas to accomodate a total of 8 searches (4 per sign up slot as indicated above). I can also set hides and distractors for AKC advanced through master searches (four advanced or excellent or two master as each requires two areas). Weather depending exterior and/or interior searches. Four areas per sign up! $35 per dog/handler team.

We will run this in a mini - workshop format each hour with a brief introduction/practice and then turns in lost article (item like keys, sock, wallet) or AKC (cotton ball or swab) - weather depending exterior and/or interior searches.
