Shawn Matherly is a Farrier based out of Southwest Michigan and Ocala, Florida specializing in Sport Horse Shoeing.

The Shawn Matherly Farrier page is to share and educate clientele and peers with photos and videos of examples and work that has been done on various horses. Sometimes good feet as well as sometimes problem footed horses so that we can learn and improve for the greater good of the horse. Different products and applications will be discussed and shared with photos and also, slow motion video which

is very beneficial to see the movement of the horse and the effects of the shoeing applications. Shawn has worked with some of the top Farriers in the Industry, including David Farley, James Gilchrist, Tim Cable, Ernest Woodward, and others throughout his career. Continuous education is crucial and being a very active member in the AAPF (American Association of Professional Farriers) has ensured his knowledge and growth has increased year after year. Shawn has attended and given clinics around the US as well as overseas to add to his experience. He welcomes discussion, questions and conversation and will respond if you would like to contact him about your horse or to make arrangements for him to work with you and your horse or horses. Debbie McDonald talks about training: “The biggest part of my coaching was in Germany with Klaus Balkenhol. What I love about Klaus is that he knows exactly when to back off, when he knows a horse has maybe had enough for the day. He never over-does a horse. He passed that on to me very strongly, it’s important to know your horse well and to be fair, yet firm enough and reactive, so you can be a person that doesn’t have to ride with strength. I’m only five foot and I rode some big horses in my life and it is a matter of making sure you have that right sensitivity and reaction, then it doesn’t take the strength.”
