Do you have hidden treat stashes to reward your dog? Well you should! If your dog only listens when they see the food or when your in certain settings these shelves help you get the treats off your body and gives you easy access to them AFTER your dog has done the behavior.

All our training programs include helping you come up with enrichment plan for your pup!
Our day training programs even help take care of that for you.
So there has been a lot of things going around lately on my Facebook with what used to be called "Snake oil cures" for dog related problems. "cure your reactive dog in 1 week" "fix your anxious dog with these 3 easy steps", "fix all your problems in 2 weeks of board and train" etc. I have been asked what I think those things, so I made a little graphic for you and paired it with a common one you have seen.
The top one show a very light outline of a good behavior modification plan. Whenever I take on new clients I don't jump straight to teaching their dog anything, first thing I need to do is teach the owner. I need to address things that we overlook (on accident!) in our dogs everyday life that can cause or reinforce the problem behaviors BEFORE I start working on "fixing them". These are often little easy things that can be adjusted in less then 5 minutes of a person's day, change your feeding, add a nap time, change walk locations or DON'T walk your dog, bring home a new stick for your dog from work, etc. But they are the foundation to the next level of things we need to do.
The bottom shows what reaching any goal (dog training or not) looks like. But as far as training goes when we hit one of those low points we normally find the cause in the first graphic where we let one of layers crumble. If we don't rebuild that layer we won't get back on track long term no matter how we try to hack it ( o the band aid quick cures I have seen to problems over the years!!)
So please don't fall for and spend a lot of money for something that seems too good to be true because it probably is!

I tried to make Daisy a punk rocker with a mohawk during our last bath time, she said no she likes the look of a spikey haired 90s boy band instead.
Are bath times easy goofy time at your house too or are you just happy if they come out clean?
If the later, did you know you can change it?

Service, Working,Therapy, Emotional Support Dogs: Which Is Which?
Service dogs, working dogs, emotional support dogs, and therapy dogs all provide aid and support to humans. But they're not the same. What's the difference?

Freedom is earned. Here you will see 2 dogs at different levels of earned freedom. The one in the back is completely free! No muzzle, no leash, only a GPS ONLY collar. The St. Bernard (Albert for those who don't know) is mostly free, still rocking his muzzle so he doesn't try eating anything stupid while practicing his freedom.
See most people think off leash just requires trusting they will come back when called. But what about trusting them not to eat the bear p**p they find on the trail? Or eating a poison mushroom? There are lots of things in nature that we really don't need our dogs eating, at least not if we want to keep enjoying our trip without a trip to the ER. While Albert's recall is great and I don't *THINK* he will eat anything I want to prove that by testing him in a way he can't fail! This muzzle keeps him from practicing bad behaviors while at a distance and freedom I couldn't mimic without. Of course we are proofing the not eating stuff without the muzzle but on the leash.

The work behind this seeming less then impressive photo
1. These two dog have had dog fights ending in blood
2. One of these dogs had 3 eye surgeries and has limited vision on one side causing reactivity
3. We are standing on a 4 foot ledge we had to cross with a dead drop into the river roughly 20feet below
4. One of these dogs has huge prey drive resulting in the death of a few smaller creatures
5. Both of these dogs were not chosen by me and are not "my breed" just dogs I seem to foster fail
If you have dogs who fight, I have been there. I have ended up there a lot in my life as I typically get the dogs who are left because of their aggression issues. I am here to tell you with the right management, training, and time we can work together to get you here too.

Katherine Barger - Owner/Head Trainer
I am certified through the the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. I have trained everything from the basics to the cases other trainers have turned down. Ever since I started training I have seen a huge need for a trainer and program that could help work on behavioral issues, in a way that doesn't have fall out for the dog and put into terms that everyone can understand. In order to maintain my certification I am required to attend continuing education classes throughout the year which helps me stay on the cutting edge of science based training methods.
Helping owners bond with their dogs has always been important to me and I have learned that if I can find a sport or activity that humans can do with their dogs, not only is that bond made stronger, but the life of both parties are enhanced. I love the look on the owners' faces every time their dog overcomes their fear of a jump or accomplishes new trick.
I've always had a passion for animals and grew up wanting to be a k9 handler. However when I served in the Marine Corps I ended up on a different path but it still brought me back to training. I started working with dogs 6 years ago when I got my Shepard Duke. We completed all level of obedience, treibball, agility, and other fun off leash work. I wanted to learn more so I attended the Karen Pryor Academy completing it in 2013 and began working with Katie. I am currently attending Dognositics to continue my behavioral learning.
I have a passion for dog sports and fitness which let me to study massage techniques, strength building exercises, and stretching techniques and use them to help my dogs as well as my clients. I am a therapy dog trainer and hope that my therapy teams can bring the joy of dogs to people in need.
Lindsay Jones-Trainer
I have always loved animals, especially dogs, so when I started training and working with them in 2014, it just furthered my love of them and their abilities. My passion for training dogs is really driven by owners and how excited they get when the most βstubbornβ dog learns that new trick, or the basic sit! I have 3 of my own dogs, and a mommy of a 2 year old human. This has really driven my passion to help families get the family dog they wish for and give everyone an understanding to communicate with their dog. A dog is never trained, it is always in training, they can always learn something new. Thatβs my mission, is to teach any dog a new trick!
