We have been busy! Many thanks to Rhodestown Volunteer Fire Department for approving our installation of a microchip scanning station at the old firehouse. This will be the first available in Richlands and we have hopes to install more! This will mean if you find a loose dog or cat you will be able to take the animal to the station and scan it for a microchip and then ideally alert their owners. This will help reduce wait times when waiting for animal control to come scan for a chip and hopefully reunite owners faster. Please make sure you have your animals microchipped!

We will make a post once this installation is complete and include a how-to video.

More grain free options for those allergy pups! Today makes our first week of filling the shelf at the shed. In total 50lbs have been stocked and it is our hope that has helped at least 50 pets. Oh no! Chewy sent me the wrong dog food...now what do I do with it?

This week Chewy accidentally sent the wrong dog food. It doesn't happen often but when it does they're a great pet company who refunds their customers and simply asks you to donate the wrong food that was sent.

Wondering where you can donate? We will pick it up for our pantry! Today you'll see bags of this grain free salmon and sweet potato kibble on the shelves at The Blessing Shed.

Please stay tuned for the stock post coming that will list what else is being stocked and the hours of operation for the pantry. As always we ask that you take one bag per household and only pick up for yourself. These are not meant to replace feeding your pets regularly but to hopefully assist when you are between paychecks or other financial assistance.

New proteins today! As long as we have a variety of donations there will be a variety of proteins available. The larger dog food bags make us able to sustain longer, but the smaller dog food bags allow us to give a better variety to hopefully help more dogs who may have allergies or other intolerance issues. Smaller dog food bags also tend to be easier on the wallet if you're wishing to donate!

While we like to be bargain shoppers, we will be putting together an Amazon wishlist for those who want to donate food but may not have the opportunity or time to bargain shop. As we move into next week we will already be looking for additional food donations so we can ensure there will not be empty shelves in 2-3 weeks time. Be on the lookout for a post with the link!

We are a grassroots program. 🌱

Based in Onslow County, our first phase goal is to provide remote donation areas which will only be possible through partnership of businesses and food pantries. This will ensure any overhead costs are low if not non existent and when we are able to accept monetary donations they can go towards food and other goals we have for the future.

There are many projects in the works! While we continously understand what is left out for food is not enough to sustain a pet for a week, that isn't the phase we are currently in or able to support. That doesn't mean we do not have hopes to eventually grow to that phase. We are at the very beginning of this journey and wish to help as many as possible if even for a day while this program grows community attention. Supporting the page here, sharing and liking posts, and even sending in testimonials if we've helped you will all assist us when presenting portfolios for donations, sponsorships, and grants.

Behind the scenes are pet owners themselves. Picking up, portioning, and placing donations. Labeling bags, answering messages, and even writing these posts! We appreciate kindness when messaging in regards to questions or concerns. Community work can be challenging and a little bit of grace goes a long way.

In future posts we hope to talk more about pet nutrition, the importance of TNR/spay/neuter, ask you to show off your pets, and eventually look forward to hosting events where we can meet those who want to be involved in the program or who have found assistance with it. It takes a village and we are so appreciative of those who have celebrated this program thus far and are committed to serving beside us.

Let's chat about the importance of labeling and why we do it. ✍️🏼

While we aim to provide pet food to assist you in a paycheck or financial assistance gap we know your pets are family. Fed will always be best, but that doesn't mean we want to ignore the possibility that those needing a hand may have a pet with food allergies. Since allergen intolerance is a spectrum the last thing we want to happen is to provide a food, unlabeled, that could risk a flair up of hives or something worse that could land your pet at the vet office.

Another important note is that each food is labeled with both pounds and cups. We recognize many free feed their pets, but know also others do not and choose to measure their pets food. Most pet food brands measure their kcals and feeding recommendations by cup. It is our hope that with the labeling of the amounts anyone receiving a donation may be able to best plan feeding their pet while waiting for a deposit or check.

We absolutely understand that 1lb of food will not nourish any pet long term. While we wait for non profit approval our donations are solely from those in our community as we are unable to apply for grants and receive funding that way. We also cannot accept monetary donations until that approval further limiting our stock to give. Our goals with this program extend much further than this first phase. We appreciate your patience and kindness while we await approval before we can progress and assist our community in more ways than these remote pantries.

We had the best time at The Blessing Shed's trunk or treat! 🐾

Thank you to all the kiddos that gave Leroy here tons of lovings. He has had the best 24 hours since we adopted him from Onslow County Animal Services.

It was so humbling to meet a few of the crew behind this non profit mission as well as those who are helped by the shed. We are overjoyed to be partnering with them to further provide assistance to our community.

We will be taking the afternoon to begin portioning out the dog food to bring to our donation pick up sites. With Carolina PAWS Program our mission is to ensure that no pet goes hungry due to temporary financial hardship. We are dedicated to supporting pet owners in Onslow County by providing supplemental pet food and resources through our network of partnering pantries and businesses. We believe in keeping pets and their families together, alleviating the stress of choosing between personal needs and caring for a beloved companion. Together we aim to build a stronger, more compassionate community where every pet is fed, loved, and cared for.

As we await our non profit status approval we are able to take physical donations of food and other pet items. We are unable to accept monetary donations or provide receipts for donations at this time. During this first phase we will be providing portioned amounts of dog food at The Blessing Shed by Overflow Cafe and Lush Pet Spa LLC. Any cat food donations, bedding, and toys will be brought directly to local rescue agencies.

Respect of this program is necessary, and that includes but is not limited to taking 1 bag per household not in excess but respect of our donation spaces and the people who work or volunteer with them as well. In its infancy, Carolina PAWS Program will only be able to provide short term assistance to those in need of dog food. This is not to replace your regular dog food purchases but to provide help when needed in between paychecks or other financial assistance. Please understand that while we want this program to grow and succeed, taking more than you need or cleaning out these donations entirely will close this program before it can be successful. Donations will be monitored both by staff and volunteers at all locations.
