Why are these eggs all different sizes???
Because uniformity is a term reserved for industrial agriculture. They spend lots of time and money to explore how to save time and money in the production of food. Everything from the feed, lighting and ventilation system, and even breed and age of the chickens is determined so they may produce the most UNIFORM product possible.
We don't do that here. We are a feral place. Any chicken that can thrive in this free roaming, predator evading, all-seasons-in-one-week environment is welcome to stay. The older hens stay on as aunties to help keep the young ones in line. In essence, there are many many many chickens of varying ages, all over the farm, laying any number of colors or sizes of eggs. And considering eggs are a seasonal product....they are dependent upon the amount of daylight.... we are appreciative of any eggs we receive from our hard working ladies.
You may not get a consistency of the same egg size over and over... but what you get instead... is a carton of jewels that are as diverse as nature itself.

Vines of wild grapes, climbing high in the pines.
Wool, the color of the stormy sky above our heads,
and the sand beneath our feet.
Feathers, gifts from birds nesting.
Chanterelles flourishing under the live oaks.
These are the lives lurking in the shadows, between the suburbs, of Bryan County.

This one of a kind, handcrafted dream catcher, is 100% farm produced and foraged. The wool, from endangered . The grape vines, acorns, mushrooms, and feathers all collected during their own season. All brought together with a loving hand by me.

This culmination of our farm is available through silent auction at

First eggs from the spring chickens. It took 30 weeks to get these first eggs. These blue eggs are from Easter egger chickens, a hatchery mix of breeds that include the gene for creating blue eggs. Notice how the blue goes right through to the inside of the shell. Brown eggs are only a tint that is a layer on the egg shell. You can also see the protective white membrane inside the shell. As you can see by the quarter in the pic, these are tiny! But size is only temporary as the hen matures. Packed with nutrients, they make an excellent companion to broccoli for a morning of work in this beautiful chilly weather ❤️

Part One.
Sometimes you need to got back to where you came from to gain clarity. To see that the road you took was not a road at all....but a damn labyrinth. And all those road blocks took you longer to get to where you are....but they taught you to PIVOT. And you realize, just like the sheep you raise, your super power....the thing that allows you to thrive even though the storms are blowing, the parasite count is high, and the pasture is lean....is .
