Is your dog on a grain free diet? The dog in this xray was on a grain free diet and it led to a heart condition DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy). This condition eventually leads to heart failure if untreated. Veterinary cardiologists are currently researching the linkage between grain free diets and DCM. Not every dog with DCM is on a grain free diet and not every dog on a grain free diet will develop DCM. DCM does not cause audible changes to the heart in its earlier stages so a veterinarian will not hear a problem when listening with a stethoscope. DCM is usually diagnosed when the heart has severe changes and is causing life threatening disease in the patient. Luckily, most cases of DCM partially to fully resolve after a diet change and patients on medication for their heart are able to be slowly weaned from them. We do not recommend grain free diets for these reasons. We understand many dogs are on these diets to eliminate allergens but in most cases can move to a diet with rice Please contact us if you have any questions regarding grain free
diets.

We're halfway through Veterinary Technician Appreciation week and are grateful for all the compliments we've been getting. If you ask any of my technicians what they do, their responses would probably be things like- draw blood, give medications, take appointments, trim nails and monitor surgery patients. I want to tell you what they really do that you may not notice. They support you in your hard decisions. They cry when YOUR fur babies cross the rainbow bridge just as you do - even if you don't see them, even when they know it is an end to suffering. They give treats to calm the anxious patient. They carry around patients recovering from surgery (sometimes in baby slings strapped to their chest) because they know those fur babies feel disoriented waking up. They hold paws or scratch ears during blood draws. They advocate for sedation/anti anxiety medication for your pet- not because it makes their job easier- but to alleviate your pet's fear. They hover over critical cases taking vitals every five minutes afraid to take their eyes off of them for even a second. They run emergency calls with skill and speed, knowing it could be the difference between life and death. They give talks about heartworm prevention and vaccination over and over again because they know how important those things are for your pet's health. Sometimes they play with puppies and kittens and sometimes they have to step out back to cry. They are the heart of our veterinary hospital and I hope they are appreciated every day not just this week. I love my techs and couldn't do my job without them

This fun duo could be the best fit for you!
Both are females. Very curious and playful. Have been in a home with dogs.
