FAQ's
If you haven't noticed, David's business page has been a bit busier. Hi, I'm Kristie, David's wife. I recently took on the fun task of helping manage his social media so he can focus on working. I thought it might be helpful to answer some FAQ's we've been asked the most the past few months.
Q- Where are you located?
A- Cache Valley, Utah
Q- How do I find out where you'll be working?
A- Follow David's Facebook business page- David Gilpin Custom Saddle Work & WOW saddle sales
Q- When will David be in our area?
A- If you'd like his services, reach out and let us know where you're located. He drives between the major cities we post on Facebook each month. So there's a good chance he'll be traveling near you and can get to you soon. He works throughout the entire West Coast. Primarily UT, ID, MT, WA, OR, and Northern CA. He's open to working other places. If you're in an area he doesn't currently service, we can work together to find enough clients in your area for him to make the trip.
Q- How do I get on your schedule?
A- Call or text David at 435-881-2364. Or message us on messenger. We'll need your barn address, best number to reach you, what you need done and number of people (if you have multiple people who need his services). We'll put you on our list. We wait to schedule everyone once we know how many people will be in each area. We'll contact you a few days before his trip to schedule an appt for an exact day and time.
Q- How much do you charge?
A- Current prices-the travel and fitting consultation is $100 per person. This does not include any adjustments to the saddle. A reflock and balance is $175. A total reflock with all new lambs wool is $375. Billets are $35 each (plus the travel fee). Occassionally there's an additional $75 charge when he has to cut the saddle where the billets are attached, then restitch it. He can tell you if this will be the case if you text him pictures 435-881-2364. All other work, he needs to see before a quote.
Q- What brand of saddles do you work on?
A- David works on every brand of English and Australian saddle, even those "only serviced by their own company reps".
Q- Do you work on Western saddles?
A- David does fittings for Western saddles. The current cost is $100 travel and consultation per person, plus $30 per horse. He does not repair western saddles.
Q- How long will it take to get my saddle back?
A- David does all his work on site. So no need to pay shipping and send your saddle away for weeks or months. He will come to you!
Q- Do you sell saddles?
A- Yes, David reps for WOW Saddles. However, he still considers himself independent. He's never pushy about selling. If you want your own saddle fixed or serviced, he'll always repair it and get it in good working order. If you're interested in trying a WOW, you'll most likely have to ask him.
Q- Do I need to show interest in WOW Saddles to get you to come out and work for me?
A- Absolutely not! He will work on anyone's saddles. He's only been working with WOW Saddles for 6 years. Selling WOW Saddles hasn't changed the way he does things.
Q- Can you order me WOW saddle parts?
A- Yes! He can also install them if you need him to.
Q- Tell me more about WOW Saddles?
A- David sells WOW Saddles because horses love them so much! They're designed by an engineer, the most technically advanced saddle there is. They're fully customizable and adjustable to multiple horses with transition taking just a few minutes. He has demo's available if you'd like to ride in one before you buy.
Q- When did David become a saddle fitter?
A- David did a 10-year apprenticeship in England with Nathanial Underwood, Master Saddler from Devon. David's been a saddler, in the U.S. since he moved here 27 years ago. His official title is A Saddler though he'll also answer to the title of Saddle Fitter.
Q- What forms of payment do you accept?
A- Cash, venmo, zelle and check
