Being active with your pet is healthy and fun for you both. but use caution during this time of year. We see a lot of snake bites around this time. π
Prevention:
Keep your pet leashed while on walks
Be careful about nighttime walks
Stay on open paths
Avoid deep grass and vegetation
If your pet gets bitten:
Do not panic
Do not approach the snake
Do not wash the wound
Do not apply pressure to the wound
Try to identify the snake
Keep your pet awake
Get to the Vet
Signs of a bite:
Swollen face
Muscle shaking
Dilated pupils
Diarrhea
Drooling

Did you know, Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne illness in Virginia.
Dogs can display several forms of Lyme disease, but the most common symptoms are lameness, swollen lymph nodes, joint swelling, fatigue, and loss of appetite. In addition, serious kidney complications have been associated with Lyme disease in dogs.
Using year round flea and tick prevention is so important! Make sure if your pets go out in wooded and grassy areas you check them in all these well known hiding spots when they come in!
