Today is the last day of National Pet Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the month, we've shared the Top 10 early warning signs of cancer from the AVMA to help keep you aware and proactive.

If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, the next step is a referral to an oncologist. The goal with any cancer treatment is that your pet maintains a good quality of life before, during, and after treatment.

The top priority for every patient is to achieve a good quality of life for as long as possible. At Partner, we believe that you know your pet best, and the criteria for determining one animal’s quality of life may not fit for another. Being armed with the correct information allows you to be the best advocate for your pet.

If you suspect your pet needs to be seen, call us. We can help.

Today is Giving Tuesday and the perfect time to share this heartwarming story. A special family and client of Partner Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center Richmond received some hope last week when CBS 6 investigative reporter Laura French and the WTVR CBS 6 News Month of Giving covered a portion of the family’s vet bill.

Lauren and Ryan Nottingham had been bringing their beloved rescue Moo Moo Milkshake, (aka Moo), to Dr. Melissa Miller, Partner’s Oncologist, for months as Moo fought cancer. This 4-year-old Pitbull had become a favorite at Partner, and the family and the oncology team did everything they could to save her. Sadly, Moo eventually succumbed to the cancer.

And as if that wasn’t hard enough, the couple also lost their home and Ryan lost his job during the time they were treating Moo. So, this gift was truly a blessing. You can learn more about Moo and the Nottingham's story by following the link in our bio.

If you want to spread hope this Giving Tuesday, consider signing up for a yoga class at Lauren’s The Yoga Dojo where she offers weekend classes to fundraise for FETCH a Cure. Learn more The Yoga Dojo.

This is Yoshi. She was recently seen by Dr. Kiser for Pyotraumatic dermatitis, also known as a hot spot. After treating her with an anti-inflammatory and antibiotics, we were able to send this sweet girl home to recover.

Beautiful 5-year-old Clementine came to visit Dr. Perez for some scabbing on his neck. Suspecting a food or environmental allergy, we prescribed a medicated mousse for the area and recommended adding a fish oil supplement to promote a healthy coat. Feel better Sir Clementine!

November is National Pet Cancer Awareness Month. Cancer is the leading disease-related cause of death for domestic dogs and cats in the U.S. In fact, the Veterinary Cancer Society has found that cancer is the leading cause of death in 47% of dogs and 32% of cats.

This month, Partner Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center is spreading the word to help educate pet owners about how best to protect their four-legged family members against this awful disease.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has developed the Top 10 warning signs of cancer in pets. These signs are not definitive for a diagnosis of cancer, but they may be able to detect a medical condition early and we all know that early detection is key when dealing with cancer.

Throughout the month we’ll share these warning signs, starting with Tips 1 and 2.

If you suspect your pet needs to be seen, call us. We can help.

Why is the Veterinary Caregiver Team so important?

“The lifesaving work done at our hospital would simply not be possible without our entire team, working together, to deliver compassionate care to each pet that comes through our doors. I’m inspired by their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to quality care. Their hard work reaches not only the pets but also the families who love them. Partner Veterinary Caregiver Teams make a difference every day!” —Julie Crosby, Hospital Steward, Frederick, MD
