June is right around the corner and so is Month! Our pets cannot plan for emergencies but we can! Below are some tips to make sure you are prepared.

1.) Have an Emergency pet kit readily available. Items that can be included are:
-sturdy leashes, harnesses, collars and/or carriers for transport
-Food, drinking water, bowls, cat litter and pans
-Copies of medical records in a water proof container
-Current photo(s) in case of separation with your pet
-Feeding schedules, allergies, medical conditions, behavioral notes
in the instance you need to board your pets

2.) Know which hotels/motels along you evacuation route that will accept your pet. Also, have a list of friends/family/boarding facilities ready that can care for your pet in case of emergency.

3.) Include your pet in evacuation drills so they can become used to traveling in carriers calmly.

4.) Make sure your pets vaccinations are up-to-date.

Flea season is upon us! Take a look at these common misconceptions about fleas.

Myth: My pet cannot have fleas because he lives entirely indoors.
Fact: Fleas thrive particularly well in the well-regulated temperatures in the home.

Myth: My pet cannot have fleas because I would see them.
Fact: You cannot expect to see fleas because many animals will lick, groom, and chew after being bitten by a flea. This causes the flea to either jump off the pet or get swallowed.

Myth: We do not have fleas because we only have hardwood floors.
Fact: Fleas love to develop in the cracks between the boards of hardwood floors.

There are many Flea and Tick treatments, discuss which treatment would be best for you and your pet with your Primary Care Veterinarian.

Our sweet Cashew passed away yesterday. She's been a member of the Church Hill Animal Hospital family since 2010. She had many health problems so wasn't really adoptable. We will forever miss her bunny hops down the halls, her sweet meows demanding to be fed, her cuddles and her velvety fur. The hospital doesn't quite feel the same without her. 😒
