Sorry for the radio silence recently. After my surgery I took a part time job as an office admin for my local Quaker meeting and took a minute to recover. That means Gatto Bagnato has Monday only appointments. I am still washing the kitties, just in a smaller capacity.

In honor of Black Friday, I want to show you Atlas. He is an adorable black kitten who started life with a hernia that was bigger than him. It never slowed him down.

But now he is all fixed up and neutered. He is a snuggle bug. Atlas is good with kids, cats, and dogs! He is adoptable through Animal Care Alliance and needs a home of his own.

Unfortunately, I had a little mishap and fractured my ankle over the weekend. As you all know, being a cat groomer takes a lot of being on your feet. I am being forced to take a break from cat grooming appointments until I am fully recovered and can provide the services our furry clients deserve.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.

I will keep you updated on my progress and will announce my return date as soon as I know.

Treat our elderly cats with care. I have a sibling pair of 15+ year old tabbies. Make sure to check those nails often.

Old age is not the time to throw in the towel when it comes to preventative or humane health. Regular vet care, a nutritious diet, mental stimulation, hygienic maintenance, a happy stress free environment, and yes even play can help extend the quality of life and perhaps even the time we have with them.

Aging is hard on any living creature and when we know what to expect, we know how to prepare. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as your little love ages:

🐈‍⬛ Watch out for stiff, uncomfortable, and perhaps even lopsided movements. Arthritis can affect not just the usual hips and elbows but even the spine and paws. Making appropriate modifications to the environment can help prevent them from jumping off/on from unnecessary heights.

🐈‍⬛ Elderly cats are at higher risk of ingrown nails as the keratin builds up without shedding. Checking nails regularly will help ensure they are healthy.

🐈‍⬛ Older cats are greasier. Keeping them bathed and brushed will prevent matting which can be extremely dangerous and uncomfortable to remove.

🐈‍⬛ Regular vet checks are beneficial to catch various ailments or diseases before it becomes bad and may still be treatable. Renal failure is common for elderly cats but if detected early enough they can begin treatment which can improve their longevity and quality of life.

It is National Black Cat Day! I love house panthers. Luna is in my logo. She is the reason I got so interested in rescue and vet med, which led me to grooming. Our foster Atlas is also a beautiful black kitty. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Atlas is ready for adoption and I am going to miss this sweet boy. He will be a beautiful man. He is adoptable from Animal Care Alliance.
