46. Yoda lived up to his name. Old, wise, mischievous, and always willing to teach you a lesson.
It seemed like he skated the rainbow bridge for the last.. 15 years??? We knew his time was limited when he came to us to retire. But he just became one of the gang, hanging around year after year. I know it sounds naive to think his time would never come, but that's how it felt. He surpassed the rest of the gang and he was always there. Still kickin'.
Today I hope he is reunited with the gang where the grass is green, the carrots are huge and the grain bins don't require him to maneuver too much to break into them.
What an incredible pony. I love you and I'll miss you forever Yogurt, Yoplait, Yoyo, YoYo Ma, Pony Boy, Rocky, My Little Pony, Yoda.

Today we lost one of the first horses that came to the farm.
Goose came to the farm as a pasture pal for our Bob.
Goose lived in the hay days while we had our herd of misfits living the retired pasture life.
After remodeling the barn and starting taking in boarders, Goose got to retire from the retired life and have a stall of his own. He was our greeter, our babysitter, our heart stealer.

From the time he arrived he was considered on borrowed time, as with many of those who come to rest and retire with us. So, 16 years together is remarkable. But we'd be lying if we said we weren't asking for a few more.

Good morning!

Taking care of horses first, then parking lot. So unless it's absolutely necessary, please stay home for awhile. All horses are tucked in and toasty. I'll let you know when we are plowed out.

Hi everyone,

Our sweet Chloe went to the big dandelion fields in the sky this morning.

She was our first boarder here at Heaven on Earth almost 10 years ago. Not seeing her in stall will be incredibly strange since she's been here since Day 1, actually since before our Official Day 1.

From treating her EPM, her stinking the barn up with DMSO smells, having to get catheterized and having a head tilt. To being pasture sound, but still having that sweet head tilt when she would get excited.

Her head tilt would come back when she'd head the crinkle of a Nature's Valley Honey Oats Granola Bar, and Lord knows we'll never be able to look at another granola bar without thinking of Sweet Chloe. Chloe was the sweetest mare, who could always make you laugh. This spring when the dandelions come up our hearts will ache again, I'm sure.

But one thing brings us peace, is knowing she lived a long happy life, and she's no longer in pain or discomfort. Thank you Chloe for the joy and love you've given us. It's been a privilege to care and love for you.

P.S.
Say hi to Teddy for us.

Beautiful fire on this chilly night at the farm. All horses tucked in. So relaxing. ❀

Using Pilates for equestrian training out of the saddle is a powerful way to improve your core. It is a must for riders of all disciplines to improve overall stability in the saddle.

Whether showing or on the trail, horses do the same basic movements -- walking, trotting, cantering, bucking, etc, and try to absorb that motion into a strong core. Strong, flexible, and balanced muscles are needed. It sounds silly to say, but the body you have off the horse is the exact one you have riding. Anything that is going on in your body will also be reflected in the movement of your horse. If you are stiff, your horse will be too. If your low back is tight, your horse will feel it. If you experience spinal imbalance, it will unbalance your horse in some way as well.

Even though the barn is "closed" there's still work to be done! 🐎

Socially distancing farm style. 😎

We appreciate our boarders patience during this difficult time, we understand how difficult it is not being able to come visit your horses. But for safety of our staff, their families and our clients we appreciate your efforts in sheltering in place and remaining socially distant. Know we are stronger together. And are excited to see you soon! β˜€οΈ

Can we get nerdy for a second?
πŸ€“
Heat increment. Or the feed energy lost as heat when we eat. In some mammals, heat loss can be up to 30% of their total or gross energy.
😲
Horses are hind gut fermenters. What does this mean? Microbe pallooza in their large colon. Which means they have a large heat increment.
Ya, so what?
All of those microbes when breaking down feed release heat to the rest of the body of the animal.
That excess heat keeps them warm in the cold weather.
AND lucky for us, this means on a balmy 0Β° ❄️ November morning, our UNHEATED barn is 40Β°πŸ”₯
πŸ€“
I'm other words, thank microbes because they're the bee's knees.
