Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

To give our staff time with theirs after they care for our furry family at the shelter, we will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, November 27th. We will reopen Saturday November 28th at noon!

🦃✨ Thanksgiving is here, and our pets are ready to “help” … whether we want them to or not! ✨🦃

Before the chaos of cooking, company, and “accidentally” dropped turkey begins, here are some quick reminders to keep your furry family members healthy and happy:

Keep your pets healthy by skipping the turkey skin, bones, stuffing, and anything with onions or garlic. Plain turkey meat, sweet potato, and veggies like green beans? Totally paw-some!

This Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks for our furry family members by keeping them safe, healthy, and happy. With a little extra care and attention, you can enjoy the holiday feast without any unexpected trips to the vet. Here’s to full hearts, wagging tails, and plenty of cozy cuddles around the table! 🧡🐾🦃

🐾 Introducing: Tuesday Tails! 🐾
Because every great story deserves a second chance… and a soft blanket, and snacks, and maybe a toy shaped like a squirrel.

Every Tuesday, we’ll be sharing heartwarming adoption updates from pets who once called our shelter home and are now living their best lives — from couch-potato glory to professional treat-testing careers.

This week we're sharing the story of Lillie (Formerly Penda), who found her forever with The Bailey Family in 2014. They said:

"My family & I adopted Lillie (formerly Penda) from HELP in 2014. She was 4 months of age when we adopted her, & now she will be turning 12 in February. She loves patrolling the backyard, squeaky toys, & playing with her brother, Roscoe. She has been such a light & source of love in our life."

Every Monday, our shelter cats will be sharing their deepest wisdom, strongest opinions, and occasionally questionable life advice — all to help you start your week with a smile as bright as a freshly cleaned litter box.

Our adoptions team headed out to Cronin Toyota of Richmond this morning to talk about what we do in the community as part of their Cronin Cares program. We took Ami and Snoopy along for a visit and they enjoyed meeting everybody.

We appreciate all the support we recieve from the Cronin company! We couldn't do it without you!

Lincoln Middle/High School Student Government held a supply drive for our shelter and were able to bring us an entire carload of donations!

💙🌍 World Diabetes Day: Meet Mr. Lilly, Our Feline Diabetes Spokespurr-son 🌍💙

Today we’re shining a light on something many people don’t realize: cats can have diabetes too—and just like humans, they can live long, happy, lives with proper management.

This handsome gentleman was diagnosed with diabetes, which simply means his body has trouble regulating blood sugar. In cats, this usually happens when their pancreas isn’t producing enough insulin or their cells aren’t responding to it properly.

The good news? Many diabetic cats, like the illustrious Mr. Lilly, do incredibly well with treatment. His regimen is beautifully simple: one small pill once a day to keep his blood sugar balanced. No needles, no complicated routines—just a quick dose and he’s back to his important tasks, like supervising staff and perfecting his loaf formation.

Feline diabetes isn’t a reason to shy away from adopting an amazing companion. It’s manageable, it’s common, and with a stable routine and a little monitoring, cats like Mr. Lilly thrive. Honestly, the biggest challenge he faces is resisting the urge to steal our lunches.

On World Diabetes Day, we celebrate Mr. Lilly and all the animals living with diabetes. If you’d like to meet this sweet, whiskered ambassador, come by the shelter—he’d love to charm you, purr at you, and maybe convince you he needs “just a few” treats.

Hello!! June is ready to shine at her foster's house this Thanksgiving!!! She's ecstatic about savoring all the deviled eggs! 🥚 June is available for adoption and is a sweet and shy girl who deserves a loving home. Will you consider opening your heart and home to her this holiday season?

We’re still catching our breath (and doing a few happy dances) after a few incredible weeks at the shelter — 25 dogs and 11 cats found their forever homes! ❤️

From shy pups who finally wagged their way into a family’s heart, to cool cats who strutted straight into adoption bliss — the shelter’s been buzzing with love, wagging tails, and purrs of pure joy.

Each adoption means an open kennel, a saved life, and another chance for someone new to find their person. And trust us, there are plenty of whiskered faces still waiting to meet you!

Come visit us this week to keep the celebration going — Dusky, our meowketing director, says there’s always room for one more “happily ever after.” 🐶🐱✨
