Katie came to us via Reid EMS last Saturday night! Her owner’s house caught fire and burned to the ground. He went back into the burning structure because he thought Katie was still inside. Thankfully, she had made it out and they were both safe! Her owner spent the night in the hospital but was at ACA the next morning to retrieve his friend…even before he had visited the Red Cross for aid for himself. There wasn’t a dry eye at ACA when they were reunited. We sent Katie with a collar and new leash, courtesy of pharmaceutical supplier Boehringer Ingelheim and plenty of good quality dog food because of Purina Distribution in Vandalia, OH. A Christmas miracle.

Earlham Health Extern Rin Mulcahy is a sophomore with aspirations to go to veterinary school after her undergrad education has been completed. She’s also interested in wildlife and has been helping out in various ways at ACA! Today, she is working with Ozzy who became a challenge this summer when she unexpectedly built a nest and laid two unfertilized eggs. Ozzy was very stressed during this period and we didn’t force her to go to programs or do training exercises. She’s acting more like her old self now, but we have to start over a bit in making her comfortable with glove training. 💕Ozzy!

LEAVE ME ALONE:
As the Baby Season has arrived we ask, once again, not to rescue baby animals unless they are absolutely in need of your help. Bunnies, Raccoons, Deer, and Birds often times leave their young alone to avoid detection of predators. If your dog or cat brings home any of these please return them to the nest that they came from. It is illegal to possess them and in many states it is required to euthanize them if removed by a pest control service.
It is difficult and often times futile to attempt to duplicate a mother's care. It is very expensive, time consuming, and emotionally draining on the kind hearted rehabilitators who donate their time and resources and sleep to try and save these little critters.
DON'T BE A BUNNY HUGGER:

Young Red Tailed Hawk brought to us by DNR yesterday had ice cold feet and couldn’t stand. X-rays showed no spinal damage but a badly broken wing. A little medication and the bird was on his feet by evening. The wing can’t be repaired but the hawk might make agreat education bird. He could live well into his 20’s.

Big rescue day for us today! We picked up an injured turkey vulture. He doesn’t appear to have any broken bones, so we will give him some time. ACO brought us a chicken and a duck this afternoon. We were worried that the duck had been attacked, but they appear healthy!

Our Story...

Animal Care Alliance is permitted by Indiana Department of Natural Resources and US Fish and Wildlife for the rehabilitation of injured/orphaned native wildlife. We also hold a special purpose education permit that allows us to use non-releasable wildlife for education programs.

We have recently shared our message of conservation and our wildlife ambassadors with Cope Environmental Center, Richmond Parks Department, and local schools. Our programs can be tailored to fit a variety of audiences. We have even visited a few nursing homes!

Visit our webpage www.animalcarealliance.com for information on what to do if you encounter injured/orphaned wildlife.

If you are interested in meeting our wildlife ambassadors or booking a program with us, please message us here or email us at [email protected] .
