At Metro Dog, we believe in changing the world for the better, one dog at a time! We have taken our cue from the Buddhist Metta Meditation practice. Our mantra is:

May all beings live with ease

. These are our values:

All of our housing units are supplied with filtered water, and the building has great ventilation. Fresh air is circulated continuously with enormous fans and the Center is heated throughout with overhead radiant heating that is has the highest energy efficiency rating available. We provide 24 hour supervision to ensure that your pet’s needs and safety are tended to at all times. Visual barriers around play areas are designed to prevent over-stimulation and generate security. GREEN PET CARE:

green certified / socially responsible Metro Dog believes in taking care of our environment. We only buy green products for use in the Center, and use recycled materials and soy inks for all of our correspondence with you. Our construction materials are sustainable, non-polluting, and whenever possible, purchased from a reuse company. SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

At Metro Dog, we also understand that taking care of our world doesn’t stop with the natural environment. We believe in supporting sustainability and fair trade both locally and globally. Dog of the Day 🗣️

Meatball 🍝

He’s a 9 year old Staffy who’s been a MetroDog since 2018. Meatball is a very sweet boy and is one our first picks when we need a model for pictures. He’ll pose, wear a hat, sweater, or costume as long as he can have a treat afterwards.

Fun Fact: His brother’s name also starts with an M but it isn’t food related 👀

Hi community! I know people are concerned about the alarming reports saturating the news cycle about a mystery respiratory illness in dogs.

I want to encourage calm.

For all to know, Metro Dog has had no dogs coughing.

The veterinary experts really don’t know that there is a new illness or if there is just a larger than normal number of dogs being reported with upper respiratory tract infections that aren’t responsive to typical treatment. Please know there have always been some dogs that develop pneumonia from a URI.

At present, there are no cases confirmed in Northern California. There are lots of stories circulating, but nothing is conclusive. I am in touch with UC Davis and they have seen no cases and encourage calm. Please remember that there is a critical shortage of vets. The veterinary network cannot sustain a panic from their communities over any cough heard. Coughing, especially this time of year, is common.

Please read this piece from the Oregon VMA. Oregon has had one of the largest CIRDC (canine infectious respiratory disease complex) outbreaks. CIRDC is not a single disease, it’s a an umbrella term for the many different viruses and bacteria that can cause URIs.

Dr. Stephen Kochis, the chief medical officer for the Oregon Humane Society, told the New York Times he does not want people to panic because number of cases reported to ODA (Oregon Dept of Agriculture) represents a small number of all the dogs in the state. “We are not seeing an uptick in respiratory disease outside of the ordinary expectation for pets that would get respiratory disease,” he said.

In the article the Oregon VMA recommends that dogs “Avoid playdates with unknown dogs. Socialization is important for your dog, so you might consider creating a playgroup of known dogs that are also vaccinated. “

We’ve got you covered there. We’ve seen so many generations of dogs undersocialized over the past 3 years because of the pandemic. Let’s not do that again! Keep them safely socializing.

How we always keep your dogs safe:

At Metro Dog, we offer a hygienic safe space to socialize in known pods of friends that are healthy and fully vaccinated. We scrub the air for all pathogens, including Covid, and disinfect daily. Water bowls are changed regularly. We don’t have common toys for dogs to play with. We rely on you to make sure your dogs are healthy and showing zero signs of illness when they come to us. If we see illness we do not accept the dog that day, or we isolate, send them home and deep disinfect the areas they were in. We use veterinary grade disinfectants that are safe for your dogs.

We are open and looking forward to seeing your dogs.

Please read and ask any questions below.

All behavior serves a function. It is our job to figure out what the behavior is providing the animals we live with. What is its function, particularly when we deem it undesirable? Once we understand the behavior and what is reinforcing it we can look at how to change it.

When your dogs are in our care at Metro Dog we create a program that provides routine that they depend on. Dogs love to discern patterns and are masterful at it. It is how they predict the future. Our program is a daily pattern, to which we add soecific handling techniques that do not use pain, threats, or punishment to communicate and shape the behaviors we want to see. What dogs practice becomes habit.

It takes time to shape behavior, and it takes consistency, which is why we recommend a regular schedule of day care for all our dogs. One, Two, three days a week becomes a pattern that they can depend on, and with dependability comes lower stress and with that comes higher learning.

We are a purpose-driven business, and we are honored to support the healthy development of your dog.

We give thanks to you and your pups!
