Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🧨🐾

Happy 4th of July!

We always think it is fun to include our pups and cats in our celebrations. As you are preparing for the holiday weekend, here are a few Tips from Jemi!

We always think it’s fun to take dogs to fireworks. But your dogs and cats may bolt at the sound!

1. Prepare them now! Play LOUDLY thunder, fireworks ahead of time to get them use to the loud noises and give them lots of love and a treat to make it a fun experience so it won't startle them.

2. If you find they are still scared, just keep them indoors with a radio or TV on to drown out the fireworks sounds.

3. If you choose to take your dogs to the big event, make sure you have good collars and leashes on your dogs! If you ignore our advice & take them out, even from a distance, they could try to bolt.

Simply put, use your common sense, play it safe and have a great 4th of July!

Keep yourself and your pups cool in the dawg days of summer!

*Take walks in the morning or evening - not the middle of the afternoon!
* Run through the sprinkler or sit in a wading pool.
* Enjoy a popsicle!
* It's cool inside... curl up and read a book or watch a movie!

Heat Stroke... do you know the symptoms?

Look for:
*Rapid panting, sweaty feet, drooling -excessive!
*Rapid heartbeat and breathing
*Vomiting
*Lethargy
*Stumbling, Staggering gait

Make sure to cool your cat or dog down slowly!
*Offer water
*Offer Popsicles
*Find some A/C or a cool place to rest
*Sprinkle with cool water (not an ice bath!)

Summer Thunderstorms....

1. Prepare now! Play LOUDLY thunder sounds ahead of time to get your pets used to the loud noises and give them lots of love and a treat to make it a fun experience that won't startle them.

2. If you find they are still scared, turn on the radio or TV to drown out the thunder.

3. Remember - you can ask Alexa to play thunder or play from youtube too. It's pretty easy to do.

Simply put, use your common sense, if you relax, your pet is more likely to relax. Make it a fun experience and give you pets lots of love!

Cars heat up! Never leave your dog in a HOT car! When on the road, make sure you A/C is cooking and windows are down a smidge to allow for ventilation if you need to stop!

If you aren’t using a tick collar, you know the drill, go check them for ticks after a hike or playdate in tall grass! Spiders too! Don’t let anything hitch a ride back home!

Dogs LOVE to swim! We ALL do! But make sure to keep them safe! Lifejackets and leashes are great to ensure their safety, especially in strong currents like Pony Pasture.

A backpack vest is a great way to keep cool for your pup! Pack frozen bottles of water in either side; it will keep your puppy cool and will serve as a cold, fresh drink mid-walk!

Remember pavement gets hot! If you wouldn’t walk on it barefoot, your pet doesn’t want to either! Plan your walks carefully in the cool morning and late evening.
