But while those extra pounds might seem cute, being this thick isn’t healthy for our feline friends. They’re on the lookout for a loving home that will help them shed those LBs and get back into their sleek, playful selves. 🐾 Let's help these chunky lovebugs find a family that will keep them purrfectly fit and fabulous! 💪

📸 You know how it goes—you head out to snap some pics, hoping for that one perfect, magazine-worthy shot. But with dogs, sometimes you end up with a lot more "real life" than "glamour shot." 😆 Take Abigail, for example. We got some adorable pics of her enjoying our play yard, but we also got...well, this gem of her taking care of business while maybe munching on a little grass at the same time. (What even is that, Abigail?!)

But that's the beauty of dogs, isn't it? Not every moment is picture-perfect, but every moment is perfect in its own way. We’re excited to announce that our dog kennels will be reopening for adoptions tomorrow (8/23)! The puppy who tested positive for Parvo at RAL is doing well and showing great improvement. The puppy who tested positive in his adoptive home is also on the mend and comfortably recovering with his family.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their kind words, support, and patience during this time. Your encouragement has meant the world to us and our pups. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Parvo Update:

We want to keep everyone informed about the current Parvo situation at RAL. Thankfully, we have only had one puppy test positive, and he is receiving the essential care he needs to recover.

To ensure the safety of all our animals, we are continuing to pause new dog intakes and remain temporarily closed for dog adoptions from our kennels. However, our cat trailer is open for adoptions, and all pets in foster homes are still available for adoption.

We’re cautiously reintroducing a limited number of dog volunteers to provide much-needed enrichment to our dogs, but access to the kennels remains restricted. The affected puppy has been moved to an isolation space, and high-risk dogs and puppies have been relocated to a controlled area with minimal foot traffic.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will reassess daily. We'll provide updates here as soon as we’re able to safely reopen dog adoptions at the shelter.

Important Parvo Update from RAL:

We wanted to inform our community that we have had two confirmed cases of Parvo—one in-house puppy and one recently adopted puppy. We have seen an uptick in Parvo in our region, so we have been keeping our eyes open for possible cases.

While this is concerning, please know that our shelter veterinarian has implemented a comprehensive plan to protect the pets in our care and reduce the chance of further spread. Here’s what we’re doing:

• Pausing Canine Intakes: To prevent new cases, we’re temporarily stopping dog intakes.
• Reaching Out to Recent Adopters: We’ll be contacting recent puppy adopters to provide guidance and check on their puppies.
• Limiting Kennel Traffic: Only essential staff will enter dog kennels, and we’re suspending volunteer shifts for now.
• Deep Cleaning: We’re thoroughly disinfecting all dog kennels and areas where dogs frequent, including hallways and offices.
• Temporarily Closing Dog Kennels for Adoptions: While our dog kennels are closed, we’re still open for cat adoptions, and dogs/puppies in foster care can still be adopted.
• Monitoring for Symptoms: We’ll be testing dogs that show any signs of illness.

We’ll follow this plan until we’re confident the situation is under control. We are hopeful that we will get through this within a few days. Parvo primarily affects puppies, but unvaccinated adult dogs can also be at risk. Rest assured, all dogs at RAL are vaccinated upon arrival, but there is a brief window during which they could still be susceptible to the virus.
