Pigs can be a great pet - they are smart, trainable, friendly, and cute. However, if you raise or own these guys, you should be prepared for just how vocal and opinionated they can be about everything. They also require regular veterinary care in order to stay healthy. Here we have the sweetest pigs - Charlotte, Oscar, and Scarlet. They came in to see us to discuss some skin issues that they were having as well as get some pedicures. Dr. Elswick, Elena, and Sidney provided excellent care and these three are well on their way to getting their skin healthy.

Our pet friends come in all shapes and sizes. Sugar gliders are small, tree-dwelling possums that are capable of gliding up to half the length of a soccer field. These little critters make great pets for those who can keep up with some of their unique quirks - nocturnal sleep patterns that like lots of social interaction and require a specialized diet. They are very sweet, smart, interactive, and love hanging out in their pouches.

This is Cairo, a 13 year old sugar glider who was having some tail issues. Fortunately Dr. Dean and Dr. Elswick were able to help out.

Rabbits are not like dogs and cats when it comes to surgery and anesthesia. They should never be fasted prior to surgery and we want them eating as soon as possible after they wake up. Their unique digestive system makes them unable to vomit so aspiration is less of a risk. In addition, feeding them decreases the risk of GI stasis, which can be life threatening. Sometimes patients are not enthusiastic about eating after surgery, so we have to encourage them with a syringe of nutrition. Here, Sunshine is recovering from her spay procedure and we are making sure her GI tract is taken care of. We even have a little garden of herbs here at Wellesley to help encourage patients to start eating.
