Cream of Mushroom presented to Wellesley Animal Hospital after some vomiting and diarrhea. Radiographs (x-rays) showed a fairly extensive gas filled intestinal tract. An ultrasound revealed an intussusception of the small intestines. Dr. Meaghan and Leal jumped into action and Cream of Mushroom had emergency surgery to remove the trapped section of intestines. He is now back to normal and getting into all kinds of mischief.

An intussusception (pronounced in-tuh-sus-sep-shun) describes a condition in which one segment of the intestine telescopes into the lumen of an adjacent segment of intestine. These most commonly occur in young animals with some form of gastrointestinal disease (parasites, bacterial/vial infection, etc.).

Kennel cough is an umbrella term for a syndrome that encompassess many infectious sources of coughing. These pathogens can be picked up not just from other dogs but from the things that the other dogs touch (medically called "fomites"). If you see signs of this condition - gagging, nasal discharge, coughing up white foam, and of course coughing - please have your dog seen.

Fortunately for Portia here, her case was mild and she recovered well.

Meet Meeko! This little guy started having some trouble urinating and his owner even noticed some blood. A quick ultrasound scan and some radiographs revealed stones in his bladder. See if you can find them in the radiograph. Unfortunately, they were too big to pass naturally and Meeko needed surgery to get rid of them. He is now doing great and doesn't even mind his donut collar - an integral part of his recovery. We think he looks pretty good with it.
