Junebug needs a spectacular forever home where she will be spoiled and pampered and told how good she is 196 times a day. We ran out of kennels in our stray wards. Our strays are now overflowing into the adoption wards.. no more space for stray dogs😭 PLEASE if you find an animal, walk it around the area and ask neighbors etc, post on lost and found pages, hold onto the animal if you can and make a found report with us. Anything to try and find the owner first helps us!

We are so grateful to the City of Richmond, VA Government for increasing our budget by $500k for FY 25. 🙏 With that funding, we will be adding five new positions and support increasing veterinary expenses. We are so saddened by the passing of our beloved friend, Kat Simons. She was such a loyal supporter of RACC and all shelters and rescues across Richmond. We will miss our weekly check in for our “Pet of the Day” segment on Mix981Richmond and offers to help us whenever we had a special event or messaging that needed an extra boost. She loved helping animals and we loved her. Kat, you will be missed ❤️
Our longest resident has been here since February 10th.. 140 DAYS!!! 😭 Swipe Right, we love her dearly. She loves us, but HATES it here. If you remember we posted her previously after she learned to escape her kennel.
Swipe is perfect. Our volunteers and staff who have taken her out on adventures said she is calm and collected. She’s good on leash and listens well. Swipe is good with dogs that like to share space and she prefers to live in a home with no cats. Plus, her adoption fee is sponsored!
We are hoping this will be Swipe’s special weekend and she will finally find her forever home. 🤩

He is all fixed up and his little heart is ready to love again without any pain. 💔 Can you be his forever family? Zeus is 16 weeks old, loves everyone, needs another few weeks of restricted movement to heal completely but does great on leash and is a happy sweet boy! 🎉🎉ADOPTED 🎉🎉 Great Dane lovers UNITE! Meet Baby! ♥️ This big beautiful girl came to RACC back in April with severe femoral and tibial angular limb deformities. You can see in the pictures how her back legs bent inwards and didn’t support her body. We weighed our options and discussed quality of life and decided to do one leg to see how she handled recovery. At any point in time, if we felt like we weren’t winning, we would euthanize. 😭 The surgery required for both legs was corrective wedge osteotomies, which is essentially cutting the bones and straightening it with plates and pins. Baby did great after the first surgery, and is recovering nicely from the second. We would like to find her a forever home today. She has 4 more weeks of stretches and slow walking to completely heal, but after 3 months in our care recovering, she’s ready for her forever people. Can it be you?!? Baby is 10 months old, loves everyone (literally), she’s the sweetest girl, great with dogs, kids and passed her cat test. She needs a home with people who understand large breed requirements and can continue her rehabilitation from surgical repair. We are so very thankful to donations made to our RACC Foundation that allow us to splurge and spend gobs of dollars on the chance that we could improve this big girls’ life. We are so blessed to have a community of helpers making these life saving choices a reality. But she’s missing something, right? Her leg! That does not slow her down at all. She loves other dogs and is social/friendly with everyone she meets. Her favorite thing in the world is puzzle toys!

Remember the dog we posted last week who had been found dead and was tied to a fire hydrant at the corner of Rex & Corbin? Preliminary necropsy reports show the dog was spayed and likely died from starvation. 🤬💔 SOMEONE knows whose dog this is. Let’s help that someone come forward with information. Furbish Thrift; a program of the William A Harrison Jr Foundation that raises funds for local animal care organizations, is offering a $2,500 REWARD for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this act of cruelty.
