We had some interesting visitors at SHVC today! These honeybees had come from a a hive nearby and were swarming on one of our trees. If you ever encounter a swarm, do not disturb them or spray them with water or pesticides. Instead reach out to an area beekeeping organization such as https://richmondbeekeepers.org/honey-bee-swarms/ and have them relocated, a service that is generally low cost or free. Honeybees are fascinating creatures, and an integral part of food production. 🐝 😍

Dog Teeth-Brushing 101 Ft. Pongo

Doggy Teeth-Brushing 101 featuring staff pet Pongo! He's not exactly thrilled about having his teeth brushed, but nonetheless he's a very good patient! You can find canine and even feline tooth brushes and toothpaste here at SHVC, and we have a few different flavors to choose from (Pongo's favorite is poultry). Daily brushing is highly recommended because it helps maintain the cleanliness pets receive after they have a dental cleaning and helps slow the return of plaque and tarter! Dental health is important in pets just as it is in humans; poor dental hygiene can lead to bad breath and disease.

What a good kitten! Fender was the purrfect patient today for receiving her deworming medication! She's still looking for her forever home, come by to meet her and fill out an application!
