The next session of in-person classes, offered through Goochland Parks N Rec, will start the week of February 28th!!

I'm looking for a few more puppies to add to the puppy class... Starts Tuesday, March 1 @ 7 pm - session runs for 6 consecutive weeks and cost is $135 for the 6 week session.

If you have a puppy or know of one in need of training, we'd be happy to add them to the class roster!!

I believe there is ONE spot left in the CGC class (Wednesdays @ 11 am) and ONE spot left in the Monday evening Teenager Manners class (630 pm)... Otherwise, the rosters are full!!

Ending the week's classes with this group is pretty awesome. Ending the year's classes with them.. PRICELESS!!

Thursday night tricks class is always a bit unpredictable, a bit "incorrect" but always a great supportive, fun group to train with! See everyone in class in 2022!!!

Hey all!! I wanted to let you know that the next 2 sessions of classes through Goochland Parks N Rec are now posted and available for registration. You can find the classes under their "programs" link:

Session 1 will run:
January 3 - Feb 7th (this is the Monday of the week classes start, dates will vary based upon Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday class schedule)

**Updated Training Opportunities!!!

IN PERSON classes will be through the Goochland Parks N Rec Organization - We are offering 4 different classes, during the month of October (4 week session). You do not need to be a Goochland County Resident to attend these classes. Class details/registration info with links are below:

CGC/Therapy Dog Prep
This class will guide teams through the skills necessary for completion of both the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test and the Alliance of Therapy Dog test items. Teams should have a good training background and working relationship with their dogs prior to this class. Testing for the CGC may be completed at the end of the 4-week session. Class will be held at the Central Cultural and Education Complex.

Life Skills for Adolescent Dogs:
The Adolescent Dog Skills class will pick up where your puppy training left off. We will start to apply the learned puppy skills, to every day life situations-additional distractions, additional challenges will be added to continue to help your dog learn. Skills will include leash walking, house manners, impulse control, plus troubleshooting adolescent behaviors. This class is ideal for puppies 6 months or older. Class will be held at Central Cultural and Educational Complex.

Introduction to Tricks:
In this class teams will be introduced to trick training methods and fun ways to interact with their dogs. The focus will be on novice and intermediate tricks, applicable through both the AKC tricks program and Do More With Your Dog trick program. Teams can be tested and earn trick titles over the course of the session, as they are able and ready to do so. Class will be held at Central Cultural and Educational Complex.

Puppy Basics:
Puppy Basics will help you teach your puppy good manners from the ground up! Teams will work on crate games/learning to love the crate, focus and attention, name recognition, sit/stay, down/stay, beginning of leash walking, and more! Having a new puppy comes with lots of questions about biting/nipping, potty training, house rules, and more-teams will be able to ask and get direction on all needs of the puppies! Class will be held at the Central Cultural and Educational Complex.

Congratulations to Juli Plank and Reagan!! This team has been consistently joining us for out and about classes, preparing to test for their CGCA, which they did today under Dawn Glasco, and passed with FLYING colors!!

Juli and Reagan are a fantastic team and we wish them the best of luck in their new adventures out west! Safe travels and keep us updated! We will miss seeing you guys each week in class!!

My next session of online classes (hosted via zoom) will start the week of February 22nd and run for 6 consecutive weeks.

Most classes are full but I have a few openings as follows:

At Home Tricks 101 (6 week class): (ONE spot available)
What better way to spend the cold, dreary days of winter, then teaching your dog some fun, entertaining tricks??
~Focus will be on novice and intermediate level trick skills
~Review and application of various training methods: shaping, luring, using props, capturing, use of the clicker
~fun, interactive engagement with your dog

Need a little clean up help/troubleshooting with your dog's training? This class focuses on improving dogs skills, as per request by handlers. Skills vary weekly and include, but are not limited to:

SHOUT OUT to an amazing group of students!!

Today marks the start of the 23rd fitness session (almost at the 3 year mark) for a little group referred to as the K9K EBOA (Eager Beaver Over Achiever) Fitness training group.

They earned this name because they REFUSED to give their dogs breaks when asked to do so, instead aiming to perfect each and every skill they were learning (don't worry, I call them out on it and force breaks during classes!).

They DO NOT allow me to take weeks of time off between sessions because they hate missing their fitness classes. They were the first group to switch to online classes once the pandemic hit and our in person options were halted.

They take copious notes (with drawings, stickers and comments included) of the exercises, form needed, what body part is worked, etc for every single class they have taken (see photo of one of their notebooks!!).

Their dedication to their dogs fitness, health, relationship and growth is simply inspiring and amazing. They didn't know at first where this little journey would take them but the benefits they have seen along the way is what drives them to continue.

This is one of many groups I get the pleasure of working with every week in classes and I'm honored they chose me.

I felt this long term dedication deserved a little credit so last week I presented them with their K9K Fitness Superstar Ribbons - achievements deserve recognition and I am so happy to give them a small momento of the work they have put in - they have certainly earned it!!

Hats off to a fantastic group of students, both human and dog!!

Another great weather day yesterday allowed for a fun Out and About class!! These teams are really seeing some nice improvements in their dogs abilities to ignore distractions, walk nicely on leash and focus on their human when out in the real world!! Congratulations to these dedicated teams and thanks for joining us!!!
