SouthPaw Canine Services Providing private obedience training for companion dogs, pet sitting and dog walking. Finally my life long passion for canines and their behavior was validated!
(14)

I found my professional purpose in 2001 when I undertook a year of apprenticeship with a well known obedience trainer here in Richmond. Since then I have provided private obedience training, both one-on-one and in a class setting, to folks and their dogs in Richmond and surrounding counties. I've been active with multiple local rescue groups over the years, and find particular satisfaction in work

ing with shelter and rescue dogs. Keeping them in their adoptive homes for the duration of their lives is my focus, and sometimes all that is required to do so is obedience training. Using a balanced, reward based philosophy based in classical and operant conditioning, my years of experience have taught me how effective Positive Reinforcement training can be. It provides structure and confidence for both humans and their canine friends, making the bond between them deeper and more mutually satisfying. I balance the science-based theory of learning with a fun, casual attitude that sets both dogs and people at ease. After all, it's all about FUN when we are building relationships! And when people and dogs understand each other, friendships last a lifetime. When I decided to go into business, the goal was a no-brainer: provide superb and dependable pet sitting, dog walking and training services to the River City. My experience and knowledge of dogs and their natural behavior will make any client confident in my ability to care for their dear companion. I can administer medications when needed, and understand that a mentally stimulated, physically tired dog is the picture of contentment. I am also able confidently care for your other pets - cats, rodents, fish, birds - I have experience and affection for all species! References provided.

My Story

I found my professional purpose in 2001 when I undertook a year of apprenticeship with a well known Richmond obedience trainer. Finally my life-long passion for canines and studying their behavior was validated!

Since then I have provided professional obedience training, both one-on-one and in a class setting, to folks and their dogs in the Richmond area. Over the years I've been active with multiple local rescue groups, and find particular satisfaction in working with shelter and rescue dogs. Keeping them in their adoptive homes for the duration of their lives is my focus, and sometimes all that is required to do so is obedience training. I employ Lure and Reward training that is based in classical and operant conditioning, and my years of experience have taught me how effective this Positive Reinforcement training can be. It provides structure and confidence for both humans and their canine friends, making the bond between them deeper and more mutually satisfying. I interchange the science-based theory of learning with an entertaining, casual attitude that sets both dogs and people at ease. After all, it's all about FUN when we are building relationships, and there is no need to dominate or intimidate our canine companions! My philosophy is when people and dogs understand each other, friendships last a lifetime. When I decided to create my own pet care business, the goal was a no-brainer: provide superb and dependable pet sitting, dog walking and training services to the River City. My experience and knowledge of dogs’ behavior will foster confidence in my ability to care for your dear companion. I can administer medications when needed, and understand that a mentally stimulated, physically tired dog is the picture of contentment. I can confidently care for your other pets as well - cats, rodents, fish, birds - I have experience and affection for all species! References provided.
