MIDDLE SCHOOL:
-Placed in Special Education
-Nickname SPED
-Prescribed Adderall

HIGH SCHOOL:
-Advisor suggests I’m not “college material”
-Basketball team hosts “Dumb Offs”
-Rules: Another kid and I answer questions and loser gets a plunger to the face
-GPA: 2.7
-What was the point in trying if you’ve been told your entire life that you’re inadequate?

COLLEGE:
-Accepted to Slippery Rock University only because of track and field
-Realized everything I was told was bu****it
-GPA:3.2
-Deans List
-Ranked 16th in the nation for the Division II Decathlon

29 years old:
Accepted to Duquesne University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program on partial academic scholarship

Why am I telling you this?
Because there are millions of you that are put in a box before you’re even given a chance to prove yourself. You can do this. Keep fighting. It gets better.
