WARNING Rant! 🤬
I was contacted by someone I did an “Evaluation” on a little 9 month old heeler mix pup that has nipped kids in the house. This dog is NOT mean, or aggressive. She is a HERDING dog in a home with people that did not know how to implement proper boundaries and structure as a puppy.
🔹After time with this dog and family, who were incredibly open to doing what I told them to do. Many of the things she was doing as a ‘bratty dog” shifted.
It is clear to me, this pup is just in need of a home with out small kids and also a “herding dog savvy” owner. ✅
🔹They adore her mind you. They just are not the ‘right fit’ for her needs.
🔹In the process of reaching out to several rescues they were looking for some support- one well know rescue in Portland that does ZERO tolerance for ANY kind of “negative behavior” they just suggest Euthanizing.
They do not problem solve, that would mean being open to negative reinforcement, as a possible tool. Ever.
No, they just euthanize. Period. That is there fix.
🔹Without ANY experience with this dog, they told the owner to euthanize her. Owner was so devastated by this conversation.
Totally negligent of this rescue. TOTALLY.
🔹All because it was completely out of their league.
If you do not know or have any experience with dog training, especially “behaviors” you should NEVER be telling a person that is looking for “help” to just euthanize your dog.”
✳️Did you evaluate this dog? Did you speak anyone that has had experience with this dog? How much experience have you had working with dogs with behaviors? How many herding dogs do you train or rescue? Important questions before spewing your “solution.”😡
🔹I will be helping place this little pup. She is a mix of herding dogs and is young and UBER smart. Movie dog smart. I will either find a home or take her and work with her and find her a home.
Be careful who you ask help from, as unless that person can show they have had extensive experience with training dogs with ANY kind of “behavior issue” their lack of knowledge/ experience and need to be the “knower” could land your dog in a freezer.
