✨ July Show Highlights ✨

July was a busy and rewarding month for team FarmHill, with several successful outings!

We began the month at the Champagne Classic at the Washington State Horse Park, where Quinn and Mikaela achieved their final I1 scores, towards their gold medal. Student Olivia and her horse Honey, had good scores at Training Level qualifying for ODS Championships.

We had a wonderful time at Silver Tail Farm’s League Show. Alex with Lyla, and Niki with Moqui, participated in their second-ever show, improving with each test! Mikaela took her horse Theo, and had good scores at 1st Level for his second time out. It was a pleasure to reconnect with friends and fellow competitors at the event!

To close out the month, we attended Bello Acers at Donida Farms Dressage Festival. Our student Emma made her debut with Jack, owned by Janette Herrera, and received over 70% at Second Level, along with a few first and second place ribbons. Emma also earned her 1st and 2nd level scores towards her bronze medal. Olivia and Honey continued their great show season receiving qualifying scores for Regional Championships, while Mikaela and Quinn took home second place both days at I1.

As always a big thank you to our amazing groom Sierrah for keeping all the ponies looking and feeling their best!

We are looking forward to a few more shows in the fall to round out the show season! Great work everyone!

Better late than never, but we had a fabulous time at the TBEA schooling show at Lake Oswego a few weeks ago. Theo scored over 75% at his first show and was first level champion with Magik close behind him for reserve champion at first level. Alex and Lyla were intro level champion with an 80% at their first show and Olivia and Honey were training level champion with over 74%. Great job everyone! 🥳🤩🥇

We are very proud of our students from this weekend's Fort Vancouver Dressage Show! We achieved many firsts, from their debut show to earning their first 9's, and, of course, lots of first-place ribbons. A big congratulations to Niki and Janette for achieving Adult High Point on Saturday and Sunday. Kudos to everyone else for their great riding this weekend. Your dedication and hard work are paying off!

It's ! Let's take a look back at this year's Young Rider Dream Program trip to Wellington and their day with Sabine Schut-Kery Dressage!

Our Dream Program participants spent a morning at Poinciana Farm where they were able to watch Olympian (and TDF Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize recipient!) Sabine Schut-Kery ride a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old PRE stallion.

Sabine’s Tips:
1️⃣ Sabine said that she definitely has goals for each ride, but they are adjustable. She explained if she wants to focus on the canter, but the trot needs work that day, then she will adjust her plan to what the horse needs. It is important to be flexible when working with young horses (and horses in general).
2️⃣ Patience is crucial, and spending more time on the basics will allow the upper movements to come. She said that sometimes patience is difficult, but it is vital in the long-term training of the horse.
3️⃣ Transitions are very important in the horse’s basic training, and Sabine explained that there are elements in a young horse’s training that can be seen (on a basic level) in the Grand Prix. Sabine said, “Strive for an 8 or a 9 in basic movements, and nurture that.”

Mikaela Kuiper, Dream Program Participant, said, “It was phenomenal to be able to watch Sabine ride two horses that were very different, but still had the same emphasis on riding back to front and the horse stretching to the bit.”

"Set your goals, write them down, and go for it!"

Wise words from newly qualified FEI World Cup competitor, Anna Buffini, to our Dream Program participants!

Thank you Anna for taking the time to chat with us at Adequan Global Dressage Festival last night!
