It’s National Vet Tech week and we are CELEBRATING our amazing team! The past year and a half has presented many challenges to the veterinary industry and it has taken quite a toll. The team at NCAH has taken each new change in stride and has maintained the compassion and efficiency our clients have come to expect from us. Each day is packed from beginning to end and while it is certainly chaotic at times, that doesn’t stop this group from taking a moment to reach in and comfort a sick or injured pet as they pass by a kennel or to offer an extra special treat to a pup that is here for vaccines. We appreciate each and every one of our amazing team members and we try to express that often. This week, however, we are going above and beyond to show them how much they really mean to us. Our office will be CLOSED on Wednesday, October 20 as our team takes a much-needed day off to take a “field trip” and CELEBRATE! If you have a prescription or food item to pick up, please plan around this closure. We will be back bright and early on Thursday morning.
With Halloween right around the corner, we wanted to share these safety tips from our friends at the ASPCA!

If you haven’t already heard, we’ll be doing curbside through the summer. It’s so easy, a dog could do it. 😉
Can you tell what this video is of? A teeny tiny baby kitten on ultrasound 🐱 It only took getting let out a couple of times for this young mama cat to get pregnant.
We were able to perform an exam and give vaccines to this busy girl without her noticing thanks to our lickimat distraction. #fearfreevisit #canineenrichment
August 15th is “Check the Chip Day.” One of our assistants microchipped her blue heeler Chief shortly after she got him at 8 weeks old. Upon scanning him today, she discovered that he somehow did not have a microchip and confirmed it with an x-ray. If Chief had gotten lost and scanned for a microchip by a Good Samaritan, the lack of a chip number would have made it difficult for him to find his way back home. This serves as a reminder to have your pet scanned at their annual wellness visit to confirm their microchip is still working 😊 *Chief was implanted with a new microchip today which was double-checked several times 😉* #checkthechipday
One of our assistants Shelbie knew something was wrong when her cat Shadow was vomiting and refusing food. Shelbie immediately brought Shadow in for diagnostics and it was suspected that she may have a foreign body in her intestines. Dr. Maxey and Shelbie elected to open Shadow up for exploratory surgery and discovered that she did in fact, have a linear foreign body (long black sewing string). The string was removed and some of her intestines ultimately had to be removed. Shadow is at home and doing very well now. If she could talk, she would probably thank Dr. Maxey and Shelbie for being so good at their jobs.
