July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month — and it’s the perfect reminder to double-check your pet’s safety plan.
Here are a few easy ways to prevent heartache and keep your pets safe:
✅ Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date
✅ Microchip your pet — and keep your contact info current
✅ Keep recent photos of your pet on hand
✅ Check your fence, leash, and gates regularly
✅ Spay/neuter can reduce roaming behavior

If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, give us a call — we can help!

Ask the Vet: What should I do if my pet is limping or has trouble walking?

Limping usually is a sign that something hurts. It could be something mild like a strained muscle or a sprain, but it could also be something more serious like a torn ligament, broken bone, or even an issue with their back. Either way, it’s not something we want to just wait and see on since limping usually means pain .

Give us a call so we can check them out, figure out what’s going on, and help get them back on their feet as soon as possible!

Ask the Vet: What should I do if my pet is vomiting or has diarrhea?

Vomiting and diarrhea can be signs of a ton of different things. It might be something simple, like eating something that didn’t agree with them, or it could be something more serious like an infection or even a blockage. The big thing to know is that vomiting and diarrhea can dehydrate your pet really quickly. We usually recommend having them checked out if you notice either of these symptoms — especially if they’re also acting tired, not wanting to eat, or you’re seeing blood in the vomit or stool. Give us a call if you're noticing any of these symptoms. Better safe than sorry!

Ask the Vet: What should I do if I notice brown discharge in my pet’s ear or constantly shaking his head? 🐶🐱

If you’re noticing brown discharge (aka “gunk”) in your pet’s ear or they’re constantly shaking their head, it’s a sign something’s not right. This could mean a bacterial infection, yeast overgrowth, or even ear mites. It’s super important not to just wipe it away and hope for the best — the real problem will still be there and could get worse. Sometimes head shaking is the first clue we get before things get really painful for them.

If you’re seeing brown gunk, noticing a bad smell, or your pet just can’t stop shaking their head, give us a call! We’ll take a look, figure out what’s going on, and help get them feeling better fast.

Question: Why does my pet scoot?

Answer: Scooting can be cute, but it's more often an indication of discomfort than just a funny behavior. A**l gland issues, tapeworms, and itching from allergies to fleas, food, or environmental allergens can all result in scooting or tail-chasing. Some pets will also scoot after having a bowel movement. If your pet is scooting, especially as a new behavior, please schedule an exam so that we can rule out a medical problem before assuming they're just clowning around!

Call us today if your pet is abnormally scooting! 🐶🐱
