Dora
Welcome home Dora — for a little while. Dora was adopted but since Little Big Dog Rescue does complete vetting prior to adoption, and Dora couldn’t have her dental while being treated for Lyme disease, we brought Dora back today for her dental. But there are a few other things going on which will have to be investigated, so please have positive thoughts for Dora, and we will keep you posted.
We would like to give a huge shoutout to Whiskers & Tails Floyd Veterinary Hospital for taking such great care of our sweet Sophie during her hernia repair and spay surgeries! We are so thankful for your excellent care and wonderful staff! She is healing up nicely and doing absolutely wonderful! 🐾❤️
Joanie our love. Post-TECA. $3,500. Fundraiser time!
THANK YOU Dr. Schillinger and Virginia Veterinary Specialists for your wonderful expert compassionate care of Joanie!

Christmas In The Mountains
With all the dogs on this floor you wouldn't know that it is MY kitchen! And now newbie Chicken has decided that it is the place to be. Chicken came from Goochland County, a very flat place. Welcome to the mountains of Highland County, Chicken!
Do you see the dog shaking her head? That is Joanie. She is getting a TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation) in a month. Joe is getting a Lateral ECA. The cost will be nearly $8,000. So before the fundraising begins in earnest, just wanted to introduce you!
If you remember Red, Joanie is his niece. Her father was Mallow. This family lived in a home where the dogs never went outside. The only way the owner could keep the dogs from running away was to keep them in the house. He was developmentally disabled; he had family, but would not let them in the house. He allowed them to leave food for him outside. He told his family that he had two dogs. At the time that the owner went into care there were seven. All intact. Eating their babies, their poop, moldy kibble in bags torn open probably by the dogs themselves. The dogs were loved, that much is clear from their sweet affectionate nature but they were not socialized and never vetted. Their flea infections were horrific and that is how Joanie comes to needing her ear canal opened, stripped of debris and tissue, and permanently closed.
Copper and Kettle
They’re even sweeter than Beagles!
Meet Copper and Kettle, two very bonded roomies whose owner has passed away. They could not be sweeter. Dog-, cat-, kid-, man-, woman-friendly. They are available for adoption as a pair. They are house-trained and potty on leash walks. Copper is comfortable with a doggy door. Both dogs sleep unless if there is food (smile). They are low-maintenance, extremely affectionate, and easy keepers. Would be so wonderful for children or elderly. The rest of you, go look at younger dogs at your local shelter! ❤️
Copper and Kettle are located in Monterey VA.

Vet day
Honeypot our feral Chow has not had a hand touch her in three years — until today! 60mg of Ace and look at her, still alert. She was further sedated at the vet and received a full physical exam, senior blood panel, 4DX, Rabies and DHLPP, and nails clipped (they hardly needed it, go figure). I was able to clip some matted fur and if she will ever trust me again, I would like to sedate her again for a grooming. She lives here happily with her family, 12 to 15 dogs that she loves and watches over like a hen with chicks.
Update! Help has arrived! Thank you Zack!

I want to brag on Rooney for a minute. He has really come full circle.
He came to us Mother’s Day weekend a mess. You could tell he wasn’t socialized and didn’t have much human interaction. We think it was his first time in his 5 years he got to sleep in a bed. (And sometimes he gets so comfortable that he falls out of it in the middle of the night lol)
Before he came to us his foster told us he climbed the chain link fence at her home. He was anxious and unsure and just wanted to be around people.
He ended up in our home with our crew of 8 dogs and he has slowly learned how to function as a dog.
He gets along with all our dogs and they range from 12 pounds to 75 pounds. He just wants to play and lick them.
Bandit here is my resident jerk. Little white dog. He will tell Rooney in a heartbeat to back off if he’s in a mood and Rooney always listens and doesn’t react.
Rooney has never one time tried to escape his crate, which we utilize while we work so he doesn’t eat anything out of boredom, or have any indoor accidents.
He can now lay on the deck and enjoy himself alone. Before he would bark and bark and bark at the door if you left him.
So if you want a sweet middle aged man to be your loyal friend then he is the guy.
Roo-roo, Roo, Mr Woooo (which he makes this weird pig like noise when he sniffs lol), Rooney is ready to be with his people. He still needs work. He is far from perfect. But he’s come a long way baby!
He’s being fostered in Beckley WV
NO CATS in the home
