ATTENTION DOG OWNERS! Please read. It could save your pets life.

Three dogs out west have died recently from drinking water in ponds with algae. This happens most often in early to late summer.

Algae is quite poisonous to pups. Dogs can get the toxin by drinking the water, swimming and then licking their fur, or by smelling/tasting algae clumps that are on shore. The symptoms often come on very quickly and can cause death in an hour, or can take a couple of days. Look for sudden nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion and seizures. Immediate treatment is required for life support, there is no cure. Prevention is the best approach.

Algae can also be toxic to humans, cats, horses and cattle. Algae blooms most often occur in late summer and early fall, and after periods of heavy rains.

Commonly called pond scum, toxic algae can also be red, reddish purple and brown. Not all algae is poisonous and only a lab test can tell you for sure. Blue green algae can be in fresh water, salt water, creeks and ponds, and can also be found in stagnant water like troughs and containers.

Check for algae whenever you take an animal to water. If your pet roams free near water sources, please check often for algae blooms.

It’s almost time for our first litter of 2024! We have 2 planned breedings this year and we couldn’t be more excited for these little ones to make their arrival. Birdie is getting BIG. Her x ray date is set for next week. We will have an idea of how many little chicks she’s incubating 🥰.

What’s a show dog handler?
These are very skilled professionals who travel all over the country handling dogs for AKC conformation shows. Some of which you may see on the television! It may look easy, but it is in fact an art to know how to show dogs and present them to their best ability.

This is going to be an excellent pairing. We're expecting these puppies to excel in AKC Conformation, Obedience, Herding, and Service Dog Prospects as well as family companions.

Both parents have passed their temperament test and health screening for hip and elbow dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA). Birdie passed her temperament test through the American Kennel Club Temperament Test and Jax through the German Shepherd Dog Club of America as well as Canine Good Citizen and Community Canine. These titles are based on obedience and the dog's temperament in a public setting around other people, dogs, and distractions.

If you're looking for a well-bred German Shepherd predisposed to have an excellent temperament and health this litter checks all the boxes.
