Southern Paws Inc. is a Non-Profit organization that works very closely with southern rescue groups to provide needed homes for dogs in the Northern USA.

Our facility is not open to the public. is a Non-Profit organization that works very closely with southern rescue groups to provide needed homes for dogs in the Southern United States. Through our program we also work to help them gain needed resources and funding that is strongly lacking in the south. It is our goal to not only provide loving homes for these dogs but to also help better shelters
and shelter life in the South. We work specifically with rescue groups in Louisiana and Mississippi which is where our dogs are currently located. All of our dogs are adopted on a pre-adoption basis and then transported to NJ after the adoption process is complete. Upon arrival they go into a 24-48 hour monitoring period, where we make sure that they have made it through transport safe, happy, and healthy. After that time period, these dogs go into their forever home. It is a long journey but it is well worth the trip. There is an adoption fee on our dogs. This fee is a reimbursement for all of the services that we have provided to the dog being adopted. We put all of our dogs through a very stringent vetting process, deworm them multiple times, run f***l exams, spay & neuter, vaccinate and have them checked multiple times by the vet. Before they are transported, each of our dogs must receive a health certificate clearing them for travel. This fee also helps us cover the cost of transport and any other medical attention the dog may require upon arrival. There is a $500 adoption fee. Please note that for all adoptions taking place after April 1, 2022 our adoption fee has increased $50 to be a total of $500. This is to help up cover all costs for the pups such as vetting, medicine, gas and other typical costs. With these having gone up over the last year, we need to increase the adoption fee to continue the work we do and help as many dogs as possible. This will mean our non-refundable deposit following the phone interview will be a total of $100 with the additional $400 due on adoption day. Because almost all of our dogs are pre-adopted there is no meet and greet process with our dogs. If you must meet the dog before you adopt then that is totally understandable, however we may not be the best program for you. We do have a back up program just in case a dog doesn't do well in his new home. In that case the pup goes back into foster care and will be put up for adoption again in the state of NJ. We have been talking about the future a lot, here at Southern Paws Inc. We hope that within the next year or so we will be able to branch out and work with other Southern states in need, such as Georgia and South Carolina. Our hope for the future is to continue to save lives and do the rewarding work that we do.
Come meet our book lover Diaz, our surfer girl Taylor, our fire fighter Charlie, our sweet little Skittles, or our happy boy Jett, and other new faces all looking for their forever homes… SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH!
HAPPY TAIL!!
THIS is why we do this!!! This is Scooter (now lovingly renamed as Gary). When our sister organization down South found him, he was just hours away from the rainbow bridgr. They got to him just in time and began the rigorous process of nursing him back to health. They succeeded and Scooter was thriving! They trusted us to find him the best home, and you guys helped us deliver!
Deborah, one of our previous adopters contacted us to adopt Scooter. She couldn't wait to give him the best forever home, and everything he deserves! It's been about 4 months since Scooter went home and he is thriving!
Thank you Deborah for taking a chance on this sweet boy and giving him the best life!
This right here is why we do what we do here at Southern Paws! Every life matters and to see this pups transformation is what makes all the hard work worth while!
Thanks so much for sharing this happy tail with us today Deborah! Give our special boy kisses from us!
How is this nugget not adopted yet!!! Cutest pibble puppy up for adoption in the world!!! Wilbur is a 7 week old potato pittie mix!! He is looking for his forever home so if you are interested in adopting please email us at [email protected]!
What better way to celebrate National Dog Day than by highlighting our best girls and best boys still looking for their forever home?
Diaz: This goofy little guy is around 6 months old now, has been in training mastering his commands, is crate trained, house broken, loves adventures, hanging out, and meeting new friends. What more could you want in an older puppy? The best part though? He’s beyond the puppy teething/chewing phase! He is the last of his litter still waiting for a home since May!!
Taylor: Can you believe we’ve had Taylor with us since FEBRUARY?! This beautiful smaller sized girl is about a year old now, and you’d never guess the first half of her first year of life was hell by looking at her. Saved from a local cruelty case, suffering from emaciation, parasites and never having had vaccines before, she STILL just wanted love and affection… I’ve not met a dog who loves hugs and being a couch potato for a nap with her humans more than Taylor. She’s been the bravest girl building her confidence, mastering commands, is house broken, loves to snuggle or explore, and also loves meeting new friends two legged or four legged.
Charlie: Oh Charlie, what can we say about this playful lovebug? At around 8/9 months old, he is another older puppy (out of the chewing stage) mastering his basic skills, manners, is house broken, crate trained, loves every living being he meets (seriously, he radiates excitement)! If he looks as snuggly and handsome in his pictures, just imagine the Charlie Brown hugs you’ll get from him in person. He’s also been waiting since May for his forever home (with us at least… He’s been waiting longer if you count his time at the shelter before that)!
Skittles: To taste the rainbow is the love this itty bitty girl named Skittles! At about 4.5 months old, this sweet girl is working on her basic commands, house breaking, and learning to be the best girl for treats! She promises to bring the rainbows and sunshine if you bring the love and good times… She’s been saving that sunshine for her forever home since June!
Interested in our babies? All fur babies are currently available through our pre-adoption program. This means that the adoption process takes place before they arrive in the state on NJ. We do not have a meet and greet process. After they arrive we will keep them a couple of days. You will then come meet him/her and take your new fur baby home with you that day. Our adoption process entails an application, vet and landlord checks, an interview, virtual home check and personal reference check. If you are interested in adopting with us send an email to: [email protected]

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce that last night Griffin made his journey to the rainbow bridge. He passed peacefully with a belly full of melted chocolate in the arms of the people he loved most in this world.
There are so many who helped us help Griffin throughout his short life. We want to say an incredible thank you to the team at Guardian Veterinary Specialists for taking such good care of our little man. Thank you for doing everything you could and exhausting every available option for our best boy. Your kindness, support, and direction are something we are eternally grateful for.
To Veterinary Emergency Group for taking such good care of Griffin in our time of need. For handling Shannon and I in our hysterical state, and for making his passing as comfortable and peaceful as possible. You helped us let him go with dignity and love, and it made it just a little easier on those of us left behind.
To Shannon Griffin's mom. I will not call you a foster mom. He was yours, we just helped a little. I will never be able to put into words the gratitude I feel towards you. Hospice dogs are never easy, it is the most selfless of jobs. It is even more difficult when the pup is a baby who hasn't even gotten to experience life yet. Thank you for giving Griffin every single adventure, every single experience, every single, ice cream cone, every single swim, all of the snuggles in the grass, and showing him the love of a family. Griffin got 102 days, and in that time, he lived better than most dogs that live till old age. I could not have done this without you. I love and appreciate you more than you know.
And Finally To Griffin our little shark,
When you got to NJ, we knew you were special. What we didn't know was how special you would be to us.
102 days was not enough. A lifetime would not have been enough Sweet Boy. Your tenacity for life, your ability to capture the hearts of everyone you met, and to make us all laugh is something we will always cherish and never forget. You never let your disabilities slow you down, and it is something we can all take a lesson from. You were the purest, happiest, and most innocent of all in this world.
102 days was all we got, and we know we made the best of it for you. We tried to give you as many experiences that we could in your short time on earth. Our goal was to give you a full life, and I hope we achieved that for you.
In the beginning, we were so sad that you would never have a home, but the truth is you had a home with us. You have stolen a peace of all of our hearts and took it with you when you left us. You were ours, and we will miss you every day.
This is not goodbye little shark, this is just till we meet again. Thank you for all the love you have given us in your short time on earth. For now, sleep well, and we will see you on the other side. We love you.
Love your Family,
Ashley, Shannon, and the Southern Paws Team
🐾 Griffin Pupdate 🦈
We have the saddest news. Tonight will be the night we say goodbye to our sweetest boy Griffin and help him make his journey to the rainbow bridge 🌈
2 days ago Grif started having seizures. We knew this was coming but none of us were prepared for it. Griffin has been deteriorating over the past few weeks. The doctors told us that he would start to have seizures and when they started it would be a very quick deterioration. We knew this was coming but none of us are ready for it.
Please say a prayer tonight for Griffin and for our team. Especially his amazing foster mom Shannon who is beyond devistated. None of us are ready to say goodbye. Hold your rescue babies tight tonight, time is short, don't ever waste it.
We are so grateful for the past 102 days we have gotten to love you baby boy. I'm so grateful you ended up with us. We love you little shark.

Help help!! My adoption just fell through and I need a forever home! All my siblings are adopted and I really want to find my perfect family too.
My name is Jet and I am a 6month old hound mix. I’m currently about 25lbs and they estimate I’ll be about 45-65lbs when I’m fully grown.
I love to play and love other dogs too!
If you can’t adopt me but are in the northern NJ area and can foster me until I find my perfect family that would be pretty cool too.
Email my rescue at [email protected] to apply to adopt or foster me!
Maxwell(m) and Kiska(f) are 14 wk old shepherd mixes and looking for their perfect furever home!

One of our amazing supporters has started offering Pet Loss Grief Counceling as a part of her practice services. I can not explain how grateful we are to know that a service is out there for this type of counseling. Losing a pet can be so difficult and it's so comforting to know that this is a program @innerarrowcounseling offers! Please see details below for info on Inner Arrow Counceling and Wellness and please reach out if you are struggling. Our pets' passings can be especially challenging experiences of loss. The death of your pet may be tragic, traumatic, or prepared for, and you may be feeling internal or external pressures to minimize your experiences of pet loss grief. Family members may also experience grieving the loss of your pet differently from one another. Your grief may feel overwhelming, and it may be hard to know how to manage and overcome these emotions. We provide Pet Loss Grief Counseling, holding space for you to process your attachment, memories, and grief in anticipation of and/or following the death of your beloved pets, and assisting you in eventually making meaning of your loss. When you engage in Pet Loss Grief Counseling at Inner Arrow Counseling and Wellness, a portion of the session fees will be donated to your choice of our partner organizations- Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge @thehenryfoundationfordogcare or Southern Paws Inc #petlosssupport #petloss #petlossgrief #grief #bergencountynj #bergencounty #therapy #newjerseytherapist #animallover #nationaldogday #doglover #catlover #pets #animalovers

Diaz needs our help!! This handsome little man has been with us in foster care since May 1st, and is on a mission to find his forever family… He said he’ll check his absolute favorite spots like the lakes and trails, if we can check his other favorite spots: Anywhere you can walk or hang out! Can someone check their own favorite spots in town? If you’re sitting outside your favorite cafe it feels like something is missing… It could be Diaz by your side! Can someone else check on their tv room if they want to watch a movie? That extra spot on the couch could be missing Diaz! He’s a 5 month old handsome little man mastering his basics, house breaking, crate training, and a wizard at turning anything into a great time. How is this bud the LAST of his litter since May still searching for a home?! Help us help a little man out by adopting or sharing far and wide to help his search! (Although he doesn’t seem to mind the extra time swimming on his search😂). IF INTERESTED IN DIAZ PLEASE REACH OUT TO [email protected]

HAPPY SUNDAY!!! Diaz is spending his morning working on his musical skills!!! ADOPT HIM TODAY by emailing us at [email protected]!
Sweet Taylor is still looking for her forever home!!!! This smushy mushy Girl!!! Taylor had a rough start in life. She was found with her siblings as a stray in Plainfield and sent off with animal control. Sadly Taylor was one of the dogs we rescued from the Mahwah Cruelty case. She has been through so much in her short 7 months on earth but you would never know it when you meet her. She us a happy, super sweet, extra cuddly nugget. She is a little scared of loud noises and new things, but we have slowly been exposing her to new experiences and the is gaining confidence everyday. Taylor loves to snuggle and is learning to play with toys. She is learning to walk on the leash and has been doing beautifully in foster care. She is potty and crate trained. She loves other dogs and to romp and play. She doesn't mind cats and would do fine with children. When Taylor came to us she was very underweight. She has been slowly gaining to reach a healthy weight and the doctors feel although she may always be on the smaller side, due to malnutrition, she is otherwise 100% healthy! I have to tell you guys, this dog is amazing. Whoever adopts her is going to be one incredibly lucky family. If you are interested in adopting our smushy mushy girl, please email us at [email protected] for an application!
