On and in continuation of National Immunization Awareness Month, we’d like to remind animal owners to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses, such as heartworm disease, West Nile Virus, and others, by keeping their animals up to date on vaccinations and using preventative medications.

Working in rescue is a constant fight. Every day, our team battles against the clock to save animals who are running out of time. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we just don’t make it.

Yesterday, our incredible Kennel Manager at Eleventh Hour Rescue shared a story that shows just how urgent the need for help is right now. Here’s her powerful message:

Today, we were 10 minutes too late...

This is the devastating reality of rescue right now. 10 minutes was all it took to seal the fate of a dog who should have had a future. Just 10 minutes after his last walk, and moments after I "tagged" him for Eleventh Hour Rescue to save, he was gone, euthanized before we could save him. He was alone, scared, and unaware that those 10 minutes would be his last.

We are living in a nightmare. Across the nation, no one in rescue has ever seen it this bad. The amount of owners surrendering their dogs every single day is astonishing. We're drowning in pleas for help, drowning in the pain of knowing how many we can't reach in time or simply just can't help because there is no room. I hate making these posts but people need to know just how bad it really is. ACCT Philadelphia took in 181 animals in **UNDER FORTY-EIGHT HOURS.** One can use their imagination for the amount of healthy, friendly animals that needed to be euthanized because there was just simply no where to put them.

This is not just a crisis- it's a tragedy unfolding in real time. If you ever considered fostering for a rescue or shelter, now is the time. We are drowning. The animals are drowning. We need you. They need you.

It's been a rainy week, but our pups are still in need of homes, and love and all that goes with it!

To my human moms & dads, this is what happens to my paws when you take me out in the scorching sun ☀️ when the pavement is so hot !

Remember I sweat through my paws, so in this heat I can’t get rid of my sweat as my paws are burning. Missing my walk won’t harm me. Please let me just relax indoors and take me out when the sun is down🐾

If you see someone walking their dog on hot pavement, ask them to take off their shoes for the remainder of their walk home. Maybe then they'll understand.
