Can’t wait to see what our pastures will do for Andre and Pearl.
Tonight Andre will get a much needed trim before heading off to Poco's Pastures with Pearl tomorrow when I get home from work. He still has some alarming things going on but at this point without grass and time he has met his maximum medical improvement here. What he needs is a full belly and time to heal. He does show signs of some organ damage and often times that can go away and return to full function with time. Andre came here with so many issues that we are thankful he is still here. He has gained several 100 pounds and been treated for several different medical conditions.
As I have stated so many times before we are a very tiny place here. We house many rescue and personal horses here. We are not a place that has pasture. We are set UP souly for critical and hospice care horses. Once they meet a certain goal it's time to send them off to green grass to get much needed grass therapy. For many years we have relied on Poco's pasture to take our horses in the transition. They have never charged us and are always willing to help out. They have aided in saving many lives. I have often told them this is the end of the line I have done everything medically possible if they don't recover with all the pasture they are not recovering at all.
Pearl is going and I am 100% sure she will bounce back in 6 weeks. I personally am not sure that Andre will ever come back home. It's a 50/50 shot all we can do is try. He is the sweetest guy and has been treated with such unkindness and neglect in his prior life. We are limited with space here but limited also with some of his issues . He drips alot of urine and it causes a lot of flies. He is scared to death of fly spray and the flies just love his legs. We are able when he allows us to to put cream fly spray on or wipe . There are days he will just kick us . So we never really know what to expect when treating his legs. Hopefully on acres of grass those things will no longer be an issue. We have never been a place that is afraid to say we need to do what is best for the horse. We could keep him here finish his rehab and it would take 6 months longer without the option of Poco's but his best interest is to move him along now and let him get started on a new life.
We are praying Poco's will not be his last stop but a place to complete his healing journey. Please pray for his continued healing and know we have done everything possible to get him healthy enough to make this journey.
