To accommodate our growing client community, we have decided to bring on TWO incredible new doctors to the Copper View Team!

Our second addition to our team of Doctors in Dr. Nainoa Kapele, DVM.

Dr. Kapele was raised in South Jordan, Utah. He has held a deep interest in animals since he was young. He discovered a particular interest in the profession of veterinary medicine during high school where he had the opportunity to participate in a veterinary science curriculum as part of the JATC Veterinary Technician program, graduating from Herriman High School. He was exposed to working with various animal species, which increased his interest in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.

Desiring more exposure to his Hawaiian heritage and opportunities to be with his extended family in Hawaii, Dr. Kapele attended Brigham Young University – Hawaii and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Hawaiian Studies. He supported his education by performing during luaus at the Polynesian Cultural Center. During summer and holiday breaks, he had opportunities to shadow various doctors – particularly a local equine veterinarian, who provided him with insight into the veterinary profession. Following graduation, he returned to Utah to take additional animal specific courses at Utah State University and started working as a veterinary assistant at Copper View Animal Hospital to obtain clinical experience to strengthen his application for vet school. He considers the mentorship he continued to receive from the skilled veterinarians at Copper View Animal Hospital key to his success during his veterinary program at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his doctorate degree in 2025. His full circle moment was returning to Copper View Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian, continuing mentorship from those that helped him achieve his professional goal.

Dr. Kapele enjoys being an advocate for the well-being of animals, including his own dogs. He is an avid learner and has a broad interest in various areas of veterinary medicine. In his free time he enjoys hobbies such as hiking, playing the guitar, and learning new skills.

To accommodate our growing client community, we have decided to bring on TWO incredible new doctors to the Copper View Team!

Our first new addition is Dr. Marin Johnson, DVM.

Dr. Marin Johnson grew up in the small town of Coaldale, Alberta, Canada. From a very young age, she knew she wanted to become a veterinarian — a dream inspired by her deep love of animals and a shared passion for medicine with her father, who is a physician.
She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Brigham Young University in 2021, where she also met her husband. After graduation, she returned to Canada to attend the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2025. While she enjoyed her time in her home country during vet school, Dr. Johnson always hoped to return to Utah — a place she considers home.

Dr. Johnson has special interests in soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and client education. She is especially passionate about building strong relationships with pet owners and making sure they feel informed and supported in their pets' care. During her undergraduate summers, she worked at the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre, where she developed a love for raptors — her favorite being the red-tailed hawk — and discovered how much she enjoys teaching others about animals.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Johnson lives in Saratoga Springs with her husband and is looking forward to welcoming a dog into their family soon. She enjoys music and is a proud Swiftie. She also loves painting, watching movies and TV shows, and playing Nintendo games like Pokémon and Zelda. She hopes to one day give back by mentoring future veterinary students.

🎆 Pioneer Day & Your Pets: Keeping Them Calm, Safe & Secure 🐾
While Pioneer Day celebrations are full of excitement for us, the loud noises and bright lights can be overwhelming and even frightening for our pets. In fact, more pets go missing around firework-heavy holidays than any other time of year.

Here are some simple but important ways to help your pets stay safe and settled during the festivities:

🔴 Feed Early & Generously
A slightly larger meal earlier in the day can help your pet relax and feel more settled.

⚪️ Bring Pets Indoors Before Dusk
Fireworks often start as the sun sets. Make sure your pets are safely inside before then.

🔵 Reduce Noise
Drown out the sound of fireworks with a fan, TV, or calming music. Consider white noise machines too!

🔴 Create a Cozy Environment
Set up a quiet space with your pet’s favorite bed, toys, or blanket — somewhere they feel secure.

⚪️ Exercise Earlier in the Day
A longer walk or play session during daylight hours can help burn off nervous energy, although be very cognizant of the extra warm weather this time of year!

🔵 Plan Ahead
Prepare now: ID tags, microchips, and calming tools (like anxiety wraps or vet-approved supplements) can all make a difference.

🔴 Stay Calm & Offer Comfort
Your pets look to you for reassurance. Stay with them, speak gently, and give extra cuddles if needed.

⚪️ Mind the Young Ones
Kittens and puppies are especially sensitive to loud sounds — give them extra TLC.

🔵 Secure All Doors & Windows
Scared pets may try to escape. Double-check that everything is locked and secure before fireworks begin.

📊 Did you know?
🐶 A dog’s hearing is 10x more sensitive than a human’s
🐱 50% of dogs and cats suffer from firework-related anxiety

Let’s make this Pioneer Day fun for everyone — including our four-legged friends! 💙🐾
If you need additional support or calming options for your pet, our team at Copper View is here to help.

Have a fun and safe Pioneer Day from our Copper View family to yours! 🎉

We hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend holiday. Please keep your pets safe. Following these guidelines from the ASPCA and others will help keep them safe and sound.
If you need help with medication for fireworks or thunderstorms, please contact your local veterinarian.
- Lock all pets indoors by securing windows, doors, crates or kennels
- Use medication or other devices to reduce anxiety and stress
- Distract your pet with a new toy or treat and give them good exercise earlier in the day
- Block the noise with sound proofing areas where your pet will be or down out the noise with music or the TV
- Make sure your pet is microchipped and has proper ID tags to make it easy to identify them if they were to escape and get lost
- Avoid all human food and exposure to fireworks or other party materials as they can be harmful

Happy Veterinary Technician Week! We may be a week late, but we still love our technicians and they deserve all the praise and celebration possible! Please help us in thanking all our wonderful veterinary technicians when you come in this week. Each day will have a different theme for our staff to dress up as. So if you see staff in different clothes, ask which fun day it is and feel free to share your gratitude for their wonderful work!
We also use this week to raise money for the Hercules Animal Fund! If you’re able, this non profit organization would greatly appreciate your donations to help save animals.
