Remembering James Reynolds

The Canine Chronicle is saddened to hear of the passing of judge James Reynolds.

Mr Reynolds became involved in the sport of dogs in 1956. He was a successful breeder of Scottish Terriers under the kennel name Renaldo where he produced many American and Canadian champions as well as several Canadian Best In Show winners.

In 1967, Mr Reynolds became a Canadian Kennel Club Judge, later becoming permitted by The American Kennel Club for all 7 groups. Mr. Reynolds was a familiar face at many AKC shows and judged over 60 National Specialties. Mr. Reynolds was honored to judge Best In Show at Westminster Kennel Club in 2006.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Marcia, in February, 2022.

The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by so many.

Preservation vs. Conservation Breeders: Who Are We?

Many types of people fall under the “dog breeder umbrella,” ranging from small hobbyists to large commercial kennels and everything in between. Invariably, these individuals can have very different breeding practices, ethics, and purposes from each other. For years, conformation and performance breeders struggled to define their identity and effectively differentiate themselves from other breeders in the eyes of the general public.

However, with the introduction and adoption of the term “preservationist” to the sport’s vernacular, we finally had a name we could identify with. It was a welcomed and needed title we could rally around and proudly put forth to the world. We had a banner to march under in our purebred breeding journey.
