Longwood Creek Farm

Longwood Creek Farm On a path to rediscovering balance with nature. Longwood Creek Farm is located in historic Crawford County, Ga. Our goal is to continue what he began.
(2)

Crawford County was originally home to the Native American tribe Muscogee or Creek. Later, President George Washington appointed Colonel Benjamin Hawkins as Indian agent to all tribes south of the Ohio River. Hawkins established the Creek Agency Reserve in Crawford County along the Flint River. Like many farms, our name links directly to our family, the heritage and to our land. Ed Tomberlin had a

vision of preserving the pine wood forest of the southeastern United States and the abundance of wild life that depend on this dwindling ecosystem. He did this very successfully through wildlife management and mentoring young people through programs such as 4-H. Sadly, he was taken from us on April 5th, 2013 after a long struggle with ALS. We strive to keep everything we do organic. Our farming practices are linked directly to the conservation of the longleaf pine ecosystem. We strive to preserve and promote dwindling livestock such as the Pineywoods cattle. Through all this, we hope to rediscover a deeper connection with nature and with each other. We invite you to join us on our journey. Follow us on Facebook and check our Farm News often for updates. Thank you,

The time has come for things to change at Longwood Creek Farm. Due to a couple of changes in our life, we are going to have to shut down. It is a time of mixed feelings, both sad and excited, about what the future holds.
We would like to thank everyone for your support over the years. We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and getting to share that with all of you. We would not have been able to accomplish what we have without everyone's support over the years. Thank you for being part of the Longwood Creek Farm family.

As for the cows... I have gotten rid of most. Of the ones I have left, it is important to us that they go to a good home. I will try and post pics of what I have left as soon as possible. Understand that this has been a crazy time for us. I will respond to messages as soon as I can. To those whom I am behind in responding to, your patience is greatly appreciated as we try and work through this difficult time.

Amy Neill Estes you were asking about the older cows. The first pic you can only see the head of Milkshake, who will be 19 this November, with her current heifer calf. I don't have a recent pic of her for some reason. The next two pics are of Roan who will be 20 this coming January. I enlarged the last one best I could and circled Roan but you can see she looks like a big whiskey barrel. So I suspect she will give birth before two long. Just FYI, these pics are my most recent of these two girls June 2nd, May 31st, yesterday, and the last is of Milkshake from August of 2022.

Today I had 4 steers escape because of a downed tree. They followed me for over a mile and a half to another section down the road and through the woods, all because I had a bucket of food. I honestly didn't expect it to be so easy as to shake the food bucket and call as we walked down the road.

It is difficult to check on the geese without getting attacked, especially this time of year. The other day I managed to get a look in the shelter and she had built a big beautiful nest. Today we have our first eggs!
