Ann was down again today. We tried a different saddle on Sugar, and she rode her and it fits her. I rode Sage for the first time and was pleased. He has a good handle and is smoother gaited than I thought he would be. I could really enjoy him.

The weather between rain showers and wind. It hasn't been weather to work horses. But yesterday one of my women's groups for the summer came and met most of the horses and the horses loved the attention. Today part of my Women's group that met for several years came and we had a good visit. So many times, the groups not only have fun learning to ride and about horses but also become friends

Dave got another one of our obstacles made today. There are a couple more that I didn't take photos of. A cowboy curtain or car wash, walk over tarp and mailbox.
We use these for In-Hand Trail and for learning to ride.

It is Montana Springtime. Crazy weather. We have been working on our new Whispering horse Whispering Winds Horse Adventures brochure. We are promoting our Half-Day Family Fun. It is kind of like a mini horse camp. We have several activities that we will do. Not just a trail ride. It is designed for families with little or no horse experience but can be changed for more advanced rider also.

Wishing all our family and friends a HAPPY EASTER and blessed one.

WHISPER STORY: I warned everyone then I got Whisper she would be good for stories. Today she wanted hugs and pets not just have me sit with her. I would hug her and then stop for a minute she would nudge me with her nose or rub her head on me. On a different note, I hope she is right that spring is around the corner. She starting to shed like mad.

WHISPER STORY: Whisper only gets a little grain as she doesn't need it when I grain the rest of her herd. She loves when I sit with her. Today she yawned and yawned while I sat with her. I love this silly mare.

Dave and I are both students of the horse. We watch them all the time. Dave has enjoyed Cinnamon and Pistol who are with Iron Penny, Gypsy, Tilly and Choco. Gypsy can get silly at feeding time and gets a couple of the others ones acting stupid with her some days. Pistol and Cinnamon have started to put themselves between Dave and the other horses. They protect him as he drags a bale out to them.

Dave did some checking for me and he decided my computer was too old for the updates Facebook made. He got me a new computer and we were able to log-in without trouble. I don't look forward to learning the new computer but I have a good teacher,

01/30/2024

I don't know what is going on with Face book but I am having trouble logging in. I have changed pass word and played their game and have been put on hold for a few days.

The sun was out when we went out to grain the older horses today. Some of them still had some snow on their backs that was melting and would have froze before it dried off. So Cowboy, Whisper, Lucky, Iron Penny, Tilly and Cinnamon got a curry comb taken to them. They all enjoyed the attention. Didn't even put a halter on Iron Penny, Cinnamon and Tilly. The other ones (that got curried) get grain so they were tied up anyway but would need to otherwise.

01/16/2024

It is amazing how warm 20 is after the cold we have had. Cowboy, Whisper, Sage and Sugar enjoyed having us spend a little extra time with them today instead of just getting grain and turned loose. I played with Whisper a little while and the others got some extra pets and attention, I am pleased that Sage is actually putting on some weight. He is typical tall, long, lean racing blood Quarter horse. The others are all doing well.

Happy New Year.

Cinnamon, Pistol, Gypsy, Choco, Tilly and Iron Penny (the neighbors' horse that is in with ours) come down off the hillside every morning to get some hay and then go back up there to graze later in the day. I have been walking out and giving them all a pet most days while they are down. They enjoy the attention. Whiskers, Princess and Tuffy have good graze and get a bale when they clean up what they have. They get grain every other day, Tuffy and particularly Whiskers think they should get it every day. But if they do they stand back of the gate almost demanding it. Spoiled horses and hinny.

What Horses Have Taught Me...

Growing up we all have so many things we need to learn, in fact, we should never stop learning. That being said so many things I have learned a horse or horses collectively have been the teacher.

As a young man I was impatient with anger issues. Not really the best recipe for success in life and certainly not with one thousand pound animals. I didn't really know what I didn't know.

Well fast forward a few years and I was beginning to realize that the more I pushed and the shorter my fuse, the bigger the explosion. I now know that the slower I go, the faster I will get to the destination. It will take as long as it takes.

I also learned from horses that it really doesn't matter how fancy or important we think we are. They aren't impressed with life's shiney things.
I can remember years ago taking two mares to a competition in a rusty truck and trailer. It was what I could afford. No one had a desire to talk to me till after the competition when we won more money than my rig was probably worth. Suddenly people wanted to treat us different, but not my horses. In their mind, I was still the same.

Honesty, horses never lie, it's not their nature. I can always know what a horse is thinking, IF, I learn how to speak their language, and by speak I mean listen to understand.

Forgiveness, horses are probably the world's most forgiving creature, they don't hold grudges. Certainly something we should all strive for. I tell people all the time that their horse has forgiven them for mistakes they haven't even made yet. Think about that for a minute.

I could go on and on about what horses have taught me but at the same time they probably aren't done yet either. My biggest prayer in life is that I never know the last time I get to ride a horse.

Morning Mantra: ā€œCompassion begins with yourself.ā€

It turns out that itā€™s very difficult to find compassion for others if we canā€™t find it for ourselves first. We cannot meet anyone at a deeper level than we have met ourselves.
If you are constantly finding fault with your appearance (itā€™s just a shell remember?), your life (it changes constantly) or your choices (they are not who you are- just what you did), then you will have a hard time expanding your love and grace to others.
Forgive yourself. Let go of shame. Remind yourself that failure is part of a shared human experience. You, most of all, deserve your love and compassion.

We are starting to do our summer Youth Groups and hoping to get going with trail rides if the weather gets nice. The trails and fields are still pretty muddy.

05/01/2023

The snow is melted and we are busy getting horses ready for the season. We are trimming hooves and shoeing the ones that need it. Starting to put some rides on them. We specialize in family units and senior citizens that want a safe, relaxing ride. Our groups are small so everyone can get individual time. Sorry: We don't do big groups.

04/14/2023

We are anxiously waiting for the snow to melt and start riding horses again. We are offering our Youth and Adult riding Groups, trail rides, lessons and equine assisted therapy and learning.
