Welcome to Michigan, where we get all four seasons in one day... and the ticks are here to stay! We removed this tick from a patient today. We highly recommend continuing flea and tick preventative all year long since these winter months have been unseasonably warm.

Look how adorable Ethel is! She was in today for her laser therapy on her hips. The therapy should help reduce inflammation, pain and decrease nerve sensitivity, therefore, making her more comfortable. We thought she sported the goggles well!! 💕🐾

You may notice that your dog is starting to develop red spots in the upcoming weeks. They are usually round, raised red spots on the dogs belly and/or groin area. These are known as “black fly bites”. They are a type of gnat that appears around May and leaves around June. Although, the spots look concerning, they don’t bother the dog and require no treatment. The marks typically resolve in 24-48 hours. If you have any questions or they aren’t resolving on their own, please call us at (248) 652-0450.

Please join us in sending our condolences to the Carmona family. Dr. Jackie Walsh-Carmona passed away on April 9, 2023. She met Dr. Carmona at Michigan State University where they both received Doctorate degrees in Veterinary Medicine. You can see her talent for interior design in our beautiful office remodel. The office will be closed on Saturday, April 15 for staff to attend her funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind or Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The week of October 17-23, 2022 has been set aside as National Veterinary Technician Week. A lot of people do not realize all that a technician does in a day. We want to take this time to thank our technicians for giving their all, day in and day out. We value our veterinary technicians every day of the year, but what to take this week to acknowledge and thank them for all they do! Please take this time to brighten their days by acknowledging all that they do! 🐾

It is with a heavy heart that we at North Hills Veterinary Hospital would like to share the sad news of the passing of Dr. Patrick Dwyer. Dr. Dwyer passed away on July 6, 2022 in Grayling, Michigan. Dr. Dwyer was a 1970 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He began his veterinary career at Gasow Animal Hospital upon graduation. In 1978 Dr. Dwyer became a partner and veterinarian at North Hills. Dr. Dwyer stayed at North Hills Veterinary Hospital until his retirement in 2015. Dr. Dwyer was a gifted veterinary ophthalmologist but most know him for his knowledge of all of veterinary medicine. Dr. Dwyer cared so much about the patients and clients. He loved his family, Golden Retrievers and fishing. He served for several years as the Treasurer of the Anglers of the AuSable group that helped to protect the river. His family will have a memorial service for him on August 15 at Potere-Modetz funeral home in downtown Rochester. Information is available at modetzfuneralhomes.com. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear North Hills Family. It is with great sadness that we announce that Dr. Tenenzapf will be leaving North Hills Veterinary Hospital at the end of June. Dr. Tenenzapf has been with us since before starting veterinary school, so to say that he will be missed is an understatement! We are so very grateful to him for his seven years of wonderful and dedicated service to both patients and clients. His knowledge and compassion are limitless. Dr. Tenenzapf and his family will be moving to Ohio, where he is joining a practice there. We are sad to see him go, but we wish him only the BEST of luck in his new endeavors.🥺🥺

Just a gentle reminder about our COVID guidelines. With the State of Michigan's COVID cases surging we are asking the following:

** Please DO NOT enter the building without a mask on.

** Please call from the parking lot BEFORE coming into the building. This is for ALL appointments. It also includes medication and food pick ups. The staff will let you know when to come into the building.

** The lobby is NOT open. The staff has worked diligently to keep the building clean and sanitized between appointments to keep everyone safe from this disease, so that we may continue to serve our community.

Thank you so much for help, together we will get through this!!!
