Adoption fees for all of our available dogs are now waived until the end of August!!

Applications are required to adopt. We do offer a 2 week Foster with Intent to Adopt option! We will allow for walk-in dog adoptions, but the process is expedited if you can submit an application ahead of time online.

We are reaching out to our rescue partners, but they are full too.

We are now housing dogs in our outdoor kennels.

We could have written this word for word. We have dogs being housed outside and we were just informed animal control will be bringing 5 more dogs today. Please pray for our staff and please pray that people in our community will find it in their hearts to adopt a shelter dog in the next few days so that we don’t have to make an extremely hard decision. 😔 Dog adoption fees are completed waived- $0!!!!

🚨 A Personal Message From our President/CEO 🚨

Dear Friends,

Within our four walls, animals continue to decline mentally, emotionally, and physically--and only you can change that. The stress, loneliness, and lack of stimulation have taken a serious toll on the mental health of a record, 600+ animals in our care, as well as the staff and volunteers who are living a nightmare as they watch these once happy dogs plunge into depression.

HSHC fully embraces a no-kill philosophy that gives every adoptable animal in our care a chance to live, love, and be loved. We have managed to sustain this even through the unrelenting, capacity crisis going on 2 years now. Our team is running out of emotional steam, and these animals are running out of time.

You see, I believe there is a misperception that because HSHC embraces a no-kill philosophy, there is less urgency in adopting, specifically dogs, from our organization. People see our beautiful building and assume because all of these animals are now safe at HSHC, they will be okay.

I need you to know that they are NOT okay. And, for the first time in well over a decade, we have had to euthanize once adoptable dogs--who after months of waiting for someone to come--mentally and physically declined to the point that the only humane thing to do was give them peace.

Below, we have featured dogs who may be weeks, or even days, from the same fate.

Our purpose is to provide sanctuary to abandoned, unwanted, and displaced animals. Our purpose is to save animals from their abusers and provide life-saving care to thousands more each year. We serve as their voice and fiercely advocate for their well-being. Our team raises the funds, provides the daily care, and creatively promotes and markets these animals every day. Our team has given more of themselves than anyone should ever be asked to keep these animals alive. We have done our part.

And now, I am imploring our supporters and the Hamilton County community to rally behind their shelter by adopting a dog (or cat), so a cage isn't where their stories end.

Clear The Shelters Adoption Event is this Saturday from 12-5pm. In place of our usual adoption fees, adult dogs and cats are only $10*, and kittens are just $50. All adoptions include a free one-month supply of preventatives, spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccines, a starter bag of food, and wellness exam at a participating veterinarian. Plus, the first 50 families who walk through the door will receive a free goodie bag.

In closing, I'll share a quote from one of my favorite songs by Oleta Adams. I tear up whenever I hear it as I imagine these animals would be saying the same thing if they could. I imagine the ones we've lost saying it to the very end. "I don't care how you get here, just get here if you can."

We WILL have concessions inside the museum!!
Nachos, coney cheese dog, pretzels, SNOW CONES, candy, and soft drinks. Best part is 100% of these proceeds go to the animals!! 🐾

Someone PLEASEEE come sn**ch up this sweet sweet SWEET senior gal!! Many of you that have come into the Center know one of our staff members daughters, Graece! Well, the other day Ruthie was due for a few preventives and vaccines so we brought her up front, and as you can see, she was instantly infatuated with Graece! Graece would wheel around in her chair and Ruthie would follow and lay on the floor next to her when she would stop. Then follow her to the next location. We made them up a comfy spot and the two of them hung out for hours! Ruthie never left her side, and she never tried to go out the door when anyone came in or out!! We had a few more staff member kiddos come in the same day, and lo and behold, it’s not just Graece she loves, she did the same thing with the other kids too!!! She loves kids!! She will do SOOOO well with children! In fact, she migrates towards them!! Unfortunately, after another unsuccessful meet and greet yesterday, we have discovered she needs to either be the only dog in the home, or live with a smaller dog than her that would more or less ignore her! She will also do perfectly fine with kitties, she didn’t seem to have a single care in the world about them 😻😻

Please take the time to read all about Ruthie, and if you think your home could be a good fit for her, please reach out!! Her adoption fee is completely sponsored, so it is $0 to adopt!

We never know how much more time seniors have with us, but spending any amount of that time in an overly crowed shelter just isn’t fair!! Please share her story!! Let’s get her in a home and on her way to a peaceful retirement as soon as possible!! This girl will be such an easy dog to own! She knows sit, shake, and lay! She listens soo well! Will not take food from your hand until you give her permission! I promise she doesn’t care if you work full shifts or have other commitments! She just needs a warm comfy bed and home to call hers and some love and cuddles at the end of the day ♥️♥️

Great opportunity for Rochester High School students needing volunteer hours for NHS!

Volunteer call out! Our biggest fundraiser of the year is coming up and we could use some extra help! Volunteers help at donation days by unloading items and organizing in the building. During the event, volunteers help with collecting admission fees, concessions, and checking out.
Volunteers needed Aug 18th-22nd from 2-6pm (can do a 2 hour half shift too!) and Aug 23-25 10am-5pm.

Please message us if you can help! Volunteers must be at least 13 with a parent. Or 16+ without a parent.
