On Sunday evening my mom (our third board member here at Headed For Furever) had emergency surgery and was admitted to the ICU. Thankfully, with the amazing care she received she should be breaking out of here shortly and is recovering well.

However, this really does impact the rescue tremendously. I will be out of work for the next month (atleast) caring for her while she gets back on her feet. That should be wonderful to have some extra time to care for the cats in our care, however, it is terrifying from a monetary standpoint.

𝘐𝘯 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘐 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘴. 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘶𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 & 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴, 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘦. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬, 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘦. 💔

Our vet bills alone in the last two weeks were over $6,000, and we have more surgeries coming up all too quickly. As everyone knows, the van I paid for was totaled by the fallen tree and we have yet to find a permanent solution to our transportation needs.

To top it all off we should be celebrating the arrival of our adoption center in the next week. Rather than celebrating, we are actually quite panicked. We have 90 days from delivery to pay off the remaining balance of $23,000 or will incur approximately $12,000 more in rent to own fees.

I explain all of this in honesty with the hope and desperation that by some miracle something will come together to dig us out of our grave and prevent our closure. I'm not a lucky person, so I can't bank on winning the lottery. Instead, I am here pleading for help.

Rochester Animal Services is bursting at the seams, quite literally. There are no kennels open and we need your help getting adoptable pets into temporary foster homes or permanent homes.

What better time to help than the holidays! Give a pup a temporary home for the holiday and help open a kennel for another pet in need!

It's time to clean out your closet, get organized, and help our local nonprofit rescue at the same time! Our goal is 4000 pairs of shoes (that would fund approximately half of one of Stella’s leg surgeries) so we need your help! We’ve been asked what we are going to do with them... We have partnered with Funds2Orgs which sends them to impoverished countries. People there open stores to support their families.
Please make sure they are in good used or new condition (no holes/broken heals)

If you were not able to attend the NY Lavender Festival last weekend because of the weather or air quality, we will honor your tickets this weekend...(It never rained here in Red Creek, or at least on the farm but it was raining all around us.) At this time of year we are out working in the garden, tending plants and mowing the lawn, but did you know that lawn grass cuttings should never be fed to horses. Please remember never put cuttings into any area where horses are grazing.

Unfortunately, grass cuttings are potentially very dangerous for horses to eat and sadly many have died as a result of people putting lawn mowings over the fence into horse pastures.

5 Good Reasons not to feed cutting to horses:

COLIC: A horse may gorge itself on piles of clippings. The large amount of grass can cause excessive fermentation in the hind gut. This can lead to colic or laminitis.
CHOKE: Horses tend to gobble down grass clippings quickly. Unlike grazing on grass out of the pasture and slowly chewing it, clippings require little effort or chewing to swallow. There is a potential risk that the clippings can get lodged in the esophagus.
MOLD: Piled up grass clippings can quickly grow mold, especially in hot and humid environments. Mold can also lead to colic.
BOTULISM: Dense piles of grass do not allow for air to circulate through grass clippings. This is an invitation for the deadly botulism toxin to develop.
POISONOUS PLANTS: Horses unknowingly eat toxic weeds and plants they normally would avoid when they get mixed in with the mower clippings.
