I am your Non-Traditional Groomer.
And what does that mean? With so many other titles out there and people renaming things repeatedly, how can someone keep it all straight?
Sometimes I don't use a grooming table. Sometimes I don't complete all the processes of the groom because the pet is having a hard time with it. Most of the time I don't give a first-time puppy a bath or a full hair trim because they aren't mentally ready for it. (this is also why I strongly recommend beginning the process at 10-12 weeks and not 6-7 months.) I am 1:1 so there is minimal contact between pets and no contact between households. I also don't give old, fragile pets a full breed standard groom because it takes too long for their short patience and sore joints.
I utilize Fear Free (tm) tactics, Behavior Specialist tactics, things they don't teach you in school or anywhere else, and go by the policy "if it's comfortable for the dog/cat, try to accommodate as much as possible."
I require a grooming schedule that needs to be maintained because the ONLY way a pet can learn is through frequent, gentle repetition. It's hard on your pet to do once or twice a year grooming, and it's hard on me as well. Maintenance schedules help not only your pet to improve but allows me to groom longer. Believe it or not, there are 20-somethings out there who are retiring from grooming because they have broken down their bodies fighting with dogs instead of working synergetically with them.
If this is what you're looking for, reach out! I have turned dogs who are fearful and reactive in grooming to be pleasant and a joy to work with. And I do the same for cats as well on a house call setting (I go to the owner with the service area most of Monroe County). Text: 585-490-7706 and email is [email protected] but texting is best!
