My girl Skyla! She's a Australian shepherd, lab mix. She was a rescue in 2019 threw Community Paws in Buckeye Arizona.
Her story was, she was just a little over a year when we got her. She was a lawn Ornament in the desert. She was about 20lb under weight, her teeth were so stained from eating her own fecses to survive. Word was, she ended up eating a chicken on the property (I'm sure she was in survival mode at that point) and the owners surrendered her.
We ended up seeing her listed on the rescues website, at the time we already had Echo, and my old dog Kahula. I wasn't Necessarily looking for a new dog, but she caught our attention. I put in a application to adopt, we went to go look at her with Echo ( I wasn't worried about my old guy) and clicked. And she instantly took to Gage. I knew I couldn't leave her.
We took her home and the first 6 months were super rough. She was not house broke at all, and training an older dog is a lot more challenging.
But we didn't give up on her. We had to replace carpet and furniture, but I refused to give up on her. Fast forward to now, her and Gage are still best friends, she knows she's safe, she is yes a tad Over weight now (were working on it) but she's our family now. She may have a loud bark (sorry neighbors) but she's here to protect. We love you Skyla! And thank you community Paws for giving us this beautiful girl. ๐ค
