This darling girl from impound was given the name, Maddie.  She was seen hiding in fields over by Medford for weeks before finally being captured by the Retrievers. Initially she was paralyzed with fear, but has snapped out of it and is ready to show her stuff. Estimated to be very young, with the look of love shining through her eyes. Just a loving doll.

This shy but sweet girl is miss Willow.
Willow was running at large as a stray and was very afraid of people. With the help of The Retrievers, she was able to be live trapped and brought to safety!
Since she was a stray, her background is kind of a mystery. Her breed mix is unknown but she is estimated to have some type of terrier or lab in there. She is a medium sized girl who is looking for a patient family while she adjusts to her new environment. She may do well with a confident canine friend to show her that life and people are not so scary.

Prescott is a young, great pyrenes mix who came to PCHS from a rescue partner when he needed somewhere to go. While we do not know for sure what he is mixed with we do know that he is super cute, fluffy and has a beautiful white coat.

Prescott is still young and would love a home that has time to show him the ropes of life. He would likely do well with another canine friend to play with. He has not been cat tested at this time. With his sweet and gentle disposition, he would make a great addition to almost any household!

Ruby, Daphne & Akira came in together from the same impound, all females, all bit frightened, but not as much as we normally see and just took a little warming up with them before they realized they were in a safe place and their sweetness started showing right away. Volunteers have started walking them and they have noticed how awesomely nice and just great dogs they are, so deserving of a loving home. Also, all three get along and go outside together for morning business and a little play.   Don’t know their past history, but pretty sure they’re in for a bright future .

Got Capone out for some pictures today. He’s a big lug for sure. Meaning he’s very likable and large, 116 pounds  at last weigh in,and he’s been recovering for about a month now.  Mostly just laying on his bed and resting,  when you walk by his kennel it’s hard not to wanna just jump in bed with him.😬 He was rescued by Companion Animal Control and you can read the story below.

This is Capone, he’s a South African Boerboel purchased from an out-of-state breeder and brought to Minnesota, his life took a tragic turn when his owner—an unlicensed backyard breeder—allegedly abandoned him and another dog in the dead of night on a rural road in Wisconsin.

Criminal charges against the owner are pending, but so far sequence of events appears to have been that after a 40-minute drive, the two dogs were dumped out of the car. The German Shepherd is still too terrified to approach anyone and is in the process of being trapped. Capone, loyal to the end, paced up and down the road in the dark, waiting for his person to return. When headlights finally appeared, we believe he thought it was his owner—and walked toward the car. He was struck.

We responded immediately. At first, Capone appeared stable—but within hours, he began circling and the left side of his face began to swell. He was rushed to the emergency vet, thanks to our friends at Paws & Claws Humane Society, who stepped up without hesitation to cover his care.

Capone has a concussion and a misaligned jaw that will require surgery. He may need his jaw wired to heal properly.

This same rescue just helped us with 24 shelties, and now they’ve answered the call again. We are endlessly grateful.

"Welcome to McDonalds', may I take your order?"

Meet the "McDonalds' puppies! These cute husky mix puppies were born at our shelter when their mom needed a safe spot to have and raise her pups. (Their mother, Dakota has already gone home and you can see a picture of her below.) The pups have spent several months at the shelter - growing, learning, and being socialized. They are now all vetted and ready to find homes of their own!

This whole group is fun, spunky, well socialized and love to play! They would do well with active families to take them on adventures and show them the ropes of life. Their mom was only 40 pounds and a husky mix, but we do not know what dad was. Some of the pups have short stubby tails and some have the longer, "traditional" tails.

More of our 24 Sheltie’s are now available on the website.   They’ve been with us for four weeks now, 9 have gone home, three or four have been on the website now for a couple weeks and there will be more to come available soon.  Be aware upon meeting them, and spending time with them,  it’s really hard not to fall in love with any one of them and offer comfort to them, especially after what they’ve been through. ..slowly, but surely they’ve been gaining trust and some are letting us pick them up without running away from us and volunteers have started to walk them off property.  There are five or six that are a big risk to take flight if given the chance.  There starting to get the hang of things, appetites have improved and are keeping their kennels more tidy, not messing them so badly, so the house training should not be a very large issue. We all have our favorites here, but each day we may find ourselves attracted to a different Sheltie…They are irresistible.  You can read more about them on the website.

And here's the rest of the story....She's an 11 month old Russian Shepherd who has unfortunately had a rough start to her short life. She and her friend, Capone, were left out in the middle of nowhere by their previous owners. Nikita was understandable scared, and ran, and Capone was struck by a vehicle. Capone was picked up shortly after the accident and started receiving medical care (he's recovering, but not ready for adoption at this time). Being so scared, Nikita spent the next week or so running and hiding, not knowing what humans she could trust. Finally, she was able to be safely captures, and is now here at PCHS looking for her forever home. At 11 months old, she already weighs over 100 pounds. Her new family should have experience with XL breed dogs, patience, and ideally a secure fenced yard for her to safely wander around in. She will need some time to trust, but once you earn that trust, she'll be your best friend forever. She may benefit from having a confident doggie friend in her forever home as well. Just weeks ago, these 7 gentle souls were part of the 27 Shelties rescued from an extreme hoarding situation—living in cramped, dirty crates, without proper food, clean water, or medical care. They are 7 of the 24 that came to us three weeks ago, a couple of them are already in their new homes . Thanks to dedication and caring love,  generous donations, veterinary treatment, patient grooming, and plenty of TLC, there all beginning a brand-new chapter.

These 7 have been cleared for adoption, with many more to follow, so keep an eye on our website. They came to us with fleas, ear mites, severe dental disease, and matted fur so packed with debris it caused painful skin irritation. After multiple vet visits, medications, and even surgery, there finally free from the discomfort they’ve known for so long.
There all still learning that people can be kind, and that they’re in a good place, slowly but surely they’re learning to trust all of us humans at the shelter,.. so they’ll do best with a patient, loving home that understands the needs of a dog coming from a life of neglect. With time, trust, and care, they’re sure to blossom into a devoted companions who will adore their new masters.

You may remember Stella the incredibly sweet, petite Yellow Lab mix, who was just here last weekend and adopted within a couple days, well these are her children.  4 1/2 months old, per usual we are unsure of who the father is. One girl and three boys. They are Rosebud, Bolt, Shiloh and Buddy.
