Europe is generally the leader in animal welfare and practices so it is very helpful to watch the trends overseas to determine what may be coming our way.

Watchdogs in Europe are proposing making it mandatory for veterinary professionals to post prices. In this instance, we at Homeward Bound are ahead of the game. We already post our prices for routine wellness care as well as some surgery costs for sick pets.

The reasons we choose to do this:
1. Efficiency. Instead of taking up time in a room or on the phone regarding cost of services, we would rather you have access to our basic costs and determine if we are the right fit for you prior. This allows us to be available to urgent cases where a routine estimate is not feasible.
2. Transparency. We are a small business in service to the community, specifically animal care. We want to help keep animals healthy! That is it. We are looking for work/life balance, a healthy wage and a rewarding career. We have nothing to hide in costs and our costs are determined based on our overhead. 4. Trust. If you can trust our posted prices for routine care, we hope that when we discuss costs associated with ill pet care, you will know we are in it for the care, not the cost.

🐾 Indoor Cat Enrichment Matters 🐾
Staying indoors keeps cats safer physically—but it doesn’t fully meet their emotional or behavioral needs. FelineVMA has updated its 2019 position and now outlines five pillars for giving indoor cats an environment where they can truly thrive:
1️⃣ Safe places for cats to retreat to.
2️⃣Multiple, separate resources — e.g. more than one litter box, separate food & water stations, cozy resting spots.
3️⃣ Opportunities to play & express predatory behavior, so cats can use their natural instincts. 🎾🐭
4️⃣ Positive, consistent, predictable social interactions with humans. 💕
5️⃣ Respect for their senses—things like enrichment, sights, smells, and sounds that matter to them. 👀👂👃

When these needs aren’t met, cats can suffer from stress, behavior problems, and even health issues. The goal is proactive care—both at home and in veterinary settings—to keep indoor cats emotionally and physically healthy.
